Isn't part 12 just a bolt? Can't you just stick any old bolt in?

That sounds condesending but I'm just curious so don't take it the wrong way Smile

Hmmm, so long as it is sufficiently clamped down on the lower yoke then I reckon you'd be alright but it's far from recommended that you ride without.

Part number 12s are as cheap as East End whores, why not buy a new part number 12?

As already suggested, as long as its firmly clamped further down the yoke it should be fine. I wouldn't have thought it would be any weird thread so just measure the OD (outside diameter) of the bolt on the other side and buy a replacement. I'm 90% certain it will be a metric ISO thread, E.g M6, M8, M10....etc. These are cheap and plentifull, hell you've probably even got one lying around the house somewhere lol

I bet if he took part no 7 out and screwed into the hole that part number 12 normaly fills it would do the trick.

it may be ok on a temporary basis, but if you have somehow lost part 12, you are expecting a lot of part 7

do you really trust part 7 to do what 12 and 7 were meant to do together ?

I dont think Id go above 40mph without part 12 and id much prefer to get a replacement part 12 and get the bus in the mean time.

If you arent sure of where to get a cheap bolt of the right size, go to a bike shop and they can sell you what you need at an inflated price.

If you find a kindly mechanic, he may just give you one, as happened to me when i asked to buy the bolt i needed (car garage).

You are of course right part 7 looks a bit long for the job and may need a few part no 16s to pack it out. Best go to see a mechanic I think

sorry, i wasnt replying to your bit, i was commenting on what the guy said at the start

i dont think part 7 could be used in place of part 12, as 12 is fully threaded, and 7 isnt.

i was just meaning that part 7 will have to do all the gripping as part 12 isnt doing it anymore

its not designed to do that much gripping, so the fork could potentially slip though the yoke if the road is bumpy and the speed is high

Bleh

I'll find it in daylight, heard a metallic ping

I'm ready for the MOT, just a few things... Lol

Forks are pitted, seals won't last long
Suspension linkage bolts are TAF'd rather than torqued
Same with brake caliper mounting bolts
The bike smells like fire when I ride it (Think that's the ACF50.. I HOPE)
Still doesn't fucking idle when cold!

Grrr

Should pass MOT anyway :>
