The .torrent file itself, or the data over your connection?

For the data, there is an option in the options. For the .torrent - not sure why you would want to do this, but just rar / zip it up with a password. Of course, you would need to tell people the password too.

I have been told that if you encrypt the torrent, that you're isp will not now you are using p2p and not strangle you're bandwith...

how true this is I don't know but have seen it said many times

That’s encrypting the torrent data over the connection, not the actual .torrent file itself.
Many ISPs throttle torrent traffic due to its nature (opens a lot of ports, uses loads of bandwidth, and is fairly inefficient). There is 2 common ways that this is done.

The first is port throttling – the ISP throttles certain ports to slow traffic down and allow other services to take priority. This can be easily bypassed by changing the port of your client, so ISPs dont commonly use it anymore.

The other is packet inspection. This is where the ISP looks at the packets, decides on its data, and then decides what priority it should have on the network. Port doesn’t matter.
By encrypting the traffic the idea is that the ISP doesn’t see it as torrent data, and gives it a higher priority. This doesn’t always work though, as some ISPs just throttle encrypted data now too. It totally depends on your ISP.

You also need to be connecting to other clients that support encrypted data. Not all do.

Use random ports Smile (im fairly sure its an option within azzy)

Remember that port changing will only be any good if this is how your ISP operates. Turn on encryption too, just to help if you can Smile

Also, look into newsgroups - much better than torrents Wink
