Hi all,

I've got a rattle on my nsr 125, ONLY at idle.

It is a little bit noisier when she is warm, and is not audible above 3000rpm.

I know the bike has been looked after before I bought it and it is always warmed up before being ridden.

And is never ridden above 10,000 rpm. Always used top quality synthetic oil.

I've had NO drop off in power since I bought it in October, so I'm a little bit confused as to what it can be.

Help
Myke.

Loose bolt somewhere? Check all of your exhaust bolts especially at the head, then check all the fairing bolts.

Where is the rattling loudest?

run her on tick over, and gt someone with a fine ear to have a listen, it could be rattling above that RPM, but cos of the engine you don't hear it.

Deffo not a loose bolt, and with the fairings off you can get close to the engine and the sound seems to be coming from there.

I've had the side clutch casing off and checked all the drive gears, and clutch, and the only play was in the clutch basket, small amount of ''free-play'' back and forth. clutch springs are good as are the clutch plates.

I'm guessing it's mechanical problem with engine, ie small end / big end.

Cheers for the reply.

Something obvious that's worth checking is the tank support arm. My NSR made a horrendous "clunking" sound while idling, with almost exactly the same symptoms as you describe.

Turned out the arm hadn't been placed in the retaining clip properly by the previous owner. I hooked it in, and the noise vanished Smile

Best of luck!
