I'm a postie, and I belong to a forum called postmanchat. Someone just posted there claiming

Quote:
i was reading in mcn this week that peterborgh mail center has banded workers from riding motor bikes to work is this trure if so what is the cwu doing about it

I suspect it's not true. But, as I said, MCN are no strangers to "the end of the world is nigh for bikers" type strap lines.

Anyone shed any light. Thanks. Thumbs Up

Erm, wouldn't he be aware of the rule if he is in fact your boss? Eh?

Sorry, perhaps I phrased my entire original post wrong. I did start work at 5:00 and I have been down the pub too.. Embarassed

I was just after confirmation that MCN had actually ran any such story, or anything like it, or perhaps even a mention in the letters page in a recent issue.

Your mate has misinformed you. What MCN reported was that there was a ban on using motorcycles on work related errands as is the case with quite a few companies and has been for a while. Cool

Fastgut is quite right. The story was an over-sensationalised 'expose' on the fact that insurance companies have worked out that bikes are riskier to insure for work use than a huge big van.

I was under the impression that it was just common sense from a business point of view, my place buy me taxis if they have to shuttle me around to incidents/courses, noone has even floated the idea of me using my bike on company time - especially since I did them for 5 months sick while I was learning to walk again post-crash!

wonder how long till the pizza & other food delivery companies stop using scooters because of insurance risks. seeing how badly most ride now, how much worse will they be if the start using cars/vans to deliver , espectally as many have a guaranteed time delivery service

That's really bad.

My firm went and erected a covered area for bikes and cycles, with a long anchoring point.

Plus its all behind swipe pass, opening barriers.

Something to do with health and safety issues with bikes after staff have been injured badly on the way to work on bikes.
