Riding my bike I have problems looking at the speedo. I always by instinct glance at the rev-counter first. It's annoying because I end up looking at the clocks for twice as long as I should do.

Today, driving my car I started to have the same problem. Glancing down at the dash coming up to a speed camera and I am staring at the rev-counter.

The problem is that the clocks are the opposite way round to my bike so I just haven't got a clue which dial is where!!

By next month I'll be trying to find reverse on my Kwak or something!

sound like you are just a bit slow.
what event do you do in the special olympics?
you could actually concentrate on what you are doing and know your vehicle.
cant you look at both?
its not like either car or bike makers try to hide the clocks.
ride/drive more and get used to it.

Consider yourself lucky.
I ride bikes with right hand gears, left hand gears hand change gears, gears up, gears down. Clock confusion would be a luxury.

the reason for the rev/spedo counter positions is thus.

in a car, you are more concerned with the speed, and radio lol
on a bike, especially sports bikes, since you are more involved you need to know how the revs are doing, speed isnt that important.

thus, on bikes rev counter has more promenant placment.

dials of any kind have no place on a bike. If you can't hear your engine revving, then you're not revving high enough.
