This has been bugging me for ages, but I've been trying to think of any REALLY good bands that have come out of the 90's or in 2000. I mean...
The 60's had The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Elvis.
The 70's had ABBA, Blondie, AC/DC, Cher, Queen, Eric Clapton,
The 80's had Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen,
Ok so not all of the bands or artists are brilliant, but they're never going to be forgotten. All I can think of if the 90's is Nirvana, U2 & R.E.M. But what REALLY good bands have there been?
Please restore my faith in music and prove me wrong here ____________________ "take pacman for example,if computer games influenced kids, then we would all be running around a dark room trying to eat magic pills while being chased by monsters and listening to repetitive electronic music"

see going on that list, its all based on a certain type of music & it was 90's that music changed alot imo & so many different genre's came forward
cause 2pac smacked the 90's imo
but its what the individual listens too tho...
it'll just turn into `no way that tune or them lot it was all about....etc.etc` ____________________ GSXR750

Blur?
Manic Street Preachers?
Shaun Rider and his mates...can't remember their name at the mo (or was that strictly the 80's??)
Hate the lot of them...bloody guitar based crap, but I'm sure there are many that think they're AMAZING!
HAPPY MONDAYS! Them's the buggers |

Great time for music at the moment, though most of the western stuff is absolute crap.
British music is awful and consists of chavs talking over beats about beating ethnic minorities up and the price of heroin &c &c, American music is either monkey noises and token asian people or black rappers talking about popping caps in various orifices.
In terms of more underground crap the west seems to be firmly in the grips of the emo craze, which certainly doesn't do music in general many favours.
There is some really good music coming from Japan at the moment though—Fujifabric, Cornelius, Melt Banana and Polysics are some of my favourites.
There are also some great bands coming from China, Wild Children being my favourite but also impressed by Yao and Second-Hand Rose.
I have a soft spot for Leningrad, too [though they're Russian] simply because their lyrics are so vile. ____________________ the warped one: This is a follow up from the thread 'my willy hurts' |

Least we might get a bit of a debate going,
and my faith in music might be restored, though I do take 'Damofo D.O.G.'s point about Oasis etc.
Just wanted to see everyones opinions on the matter. ____________________ "take pacman for example,if computer games influenced kids, then we would all be running around a dark room trying to eat magic pills while being chased by monsters and listening to repetitive electronic music"

Oasis and Blur are the 2 that spring to mind, also Coldplay, REM, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, and if I don't want to be biased, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams. There's loads of it, the British music scene in particular has seen some absolute trailblazers in the 90s, with America putting out the biggest names.
I love older music as well, Pink Flloyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, it's all good. But I still think that genre of music is horrendously overrepresented and overrated, because the biggest fans of that music are the most stubborn, pig headed, narrow-minded wankers on the planet. But because of who they are and what age they are - you all know the kind I'm talking about - their opinion is highly regarded. Remember that programme 'Grumpy Old Men' or something along those lines? It was just a load of 40-60 somethings moaning about how confusing iPods are, but it was fit for television, because people regard their opinion highly. |

Good point there!!!!! Hadn't thought about some of those! Well done! Especially the Chilli's! Can't believe I forgot about them.
Yeah The Chilli's have definitely cheered me up a bit ____________________ "take pacman for example,if computer games influenced kids, then we would all be running around a dark room trying to eat magic pills while being chased by monsters and listening to repetitive electronic music"

Hmmm bit of a toughie but looking back through my CDs I find: Crowded House, INXS, Jamiroquai, and Space not much else, got a feeling most of these started late 80's though, and my wife has some David Gray. But there were still plenty of bands/artists doing in the 90's what they did in previous decades so it wasn't devoid of music. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |
