Does anybody have any information on this bike? I'm wanting to return to biking and have seen one of these at a reasonable price.
I
t's listed at dealers as an import, what does this mean? The one I'm looking at has done about 3000 miles, anything I should look out for? I'm guessing it's based on the old GS 125. Can't find any info at all on google.

Most importantly I'm concerned about reliablity and parts availabilty.

here's a link to the bike https://www.jeffhallmotorcycles.co.uk/detail.asp?carid=56

Thanks and Hi! Smile

Looks like quite a nice bike. Not a bad price if it is new.
An import may have the speedo in kmh instead of mph, and the spec might be slightly different to a uk bike. It might be restricted in a different way to uk bikes.

A lot of training schools use them, so they can't be that bad for spares/reliability. Like has been said, just may have km/h clocks, maybe a headlamp dipping the wrong way if your (un)lucky. But I can't see a problem, they're Suzuki so parts and everything else should be a doddle.

I've got an unfaired Suzuki EN-125. No screen and belly pan basically. I was led to believe that it was based on the GS 125, though I've yet to really delve into anything majorly technical/mechanical with it. Mine has a MPH sticker on the speedo and has converted. You can't get a UK version of this bike as Suzuki in their wisdom decided never to import this one officially. Dunno why as it will compete with the Honda, Yamaha equivalents IMHO. Several independent firms therefore decided to import it when it was released in 2005 (I think).

I rate it as a learner bike - which is what I'm doing with it. Had it for a few months now and seems to be holding it's own. Reliability has (touch wood) been good for me; mine had 5k on when I bought it, but also had been looked after OK too with oil changes, chain maintenance, servicing, etc. I find balance really good on it (or is that me? Wink ) and doing u-turns etc. is not so bad as a consequence. Especially compared to the "well used" CG I used on my CBT. Mirrors also function really well with very little vibration (again very different to my CBT).

There is a firm on ebay selling replacement parts like the fairing panels, clocks, levers, clutch assembly etc. Can be found by searching for Brooks Barn. Also, the guy I bought from said he'd had to replace an indicator and one of the bandit models fitted it, and he got the part from a Suzuki garage.

Hi, brought a Suzuki EN125-2 about a month ago from new and have had no problems at all.

Its an ideal learner bike and are assured they are very reliable with spares easy to get hold of.

My speedo is in Kmh!

steep price IMHO. you could buy a brand knew YBR for that, pretty much the same bike, but you would have youself 2 years warrenty.

get a ybr, really decent bikes and can be great fun too, you can get a good amount of lean from them but i expect you can on the others.

you can pick up mint 2nd hand YBR's for a tad over a grand.

If you have not past your test, look at the re sale value of any bike you purchase since some de value a lot more than others. The Honda CG125 is low in devaluation compared to others.

If you are returning to biking and have past your test.

Consider the reliability and comfort.

The Suzuki is at £1799

The Honda CG125 is £1999 but you can often barter down the price depending on the dealer. Last winter several dealers sold it for £1699

The Honda has 2 year warrantee and breakdown.

You can get a back rack from Givi for the bike (just over £30?). Side stand is £53 from Honda dealers who no which country to import it from but its still a honda part for the CG.

The pros of the Honda are reliability and quality.

The downs of the Honda are no screens (except handlebar ones) or overhead cam (slow to accelerate).

I do not no if the Suzuki is overhead cam or not, the Yamaha is.

I have read loads of identical complaints about the Yamaha YBR125 on this forum like tyres, brakes and loads of other things. I have not read any complaints about the Honda except one person went to university and left the bike at home, several months later the battery was flat (what do you expect with any bike?).

The Honda has been fitted with loads of quality items.
Like the chain is O ring, the battery is maintence free and a known quality make.
The tyres are Pirelli and work ok (Michelin Pilot Sportys are a lot better).

I have done over 10000 miles on a 2005 Honda CG125 and had no problems, I have not even had to oil the clutch cable.

I have ridden 250 miles in a day (mainly on the A1) and my body was ok to use the bike the next day.

The Honda CG125 was updated in 2004, front disk brake and the engine improved with reduced emissions, new styling. The only thing is make sure the dealer sets the idle mixture screw to the fastest idle (bike is set to lean in order to pass emission regulations).

spoon, why set the idle to the fasters idle speed? Confused

edit:

the brakes are fine on the YBR, dunno who has said otherwise. I stop quicker than my driving instructor can in his brand new corsa Rolling Eyes

Brakes posts = https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=116406&highlight=ybr+brakes

The idle mixture was set very lean to pass emmision specs. Very lean means you will need choke for longer and more often. It also means that the bike will slightly hesitate when opening the throttle.

You turn the idle mixture screw until you get the fasteest idle speed to get the correct mixture, to rich or lean will slow the idle speed down. This is the old fashioned way of doing it, even my Honda lawn mower user guide tells me this. I found checking the spark plug colour does not show any difference (I bet it only shows if the mixture is massivly wrong?).

Honda CG125

Only thing that has worn out in 10000 miles are the tyres.

I have replaced the engine oil, spark plug & brake fluid as per the service intervals.

I have had to oil the chain or course, but thats it, not cost me anything else except my time and petrol.

All I have had to do labour wise is check the valve clearence a few times (only adjusted twice). Change the oil every 2500 miles and brake fluid once. Chain has been tensioned a few times.

I recommend anyone looking at buying a Yamaha YBR125 read all the following large thread https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=107104&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=ybr125&start=0

Only thing to note is the 2007 model has fuel injection added = no choke or mixture screws since the computer does it all.

ok so yamaha could have done a few different things, like give us decent tyres. All of my complaints about the 06 model have been answered on the 07 model, sidestand, etc.

Took a few steps back also, with a passion, i hate their new (5 spoke) wheels as they look aweful, and the even more retro headlight looks gay, while the indicators liike like sharks eyes Confused

oh, and they lost 5mph too.

they also have the new exhaust, which looke better being black IMO, but they seem to have reshaped the tank, looks more square to me. One thing i love about my 06 is the definition of the tank.

Id rather have my 06 model IMO, being as i just baught a sidestand for £25 fitted from the yamaha dealer.

Just to update that I finally bought a brand new EN125-2 from a Suzuki dealer. I've seen quite a few people trying to find information on the bike so thought I'd give you my first impressions although I have only covered 350 miles running it in (weather).

I was worried because they are made in china but the build quality seems very good. Handles nice and feels sporty with the clip on style bars and great looking white clocks. Can't comment on the engine as I'm not allowed over 5000 rpm :p but the tyres grip ok and I'm happy with the ride.

My only gripes are the forks which seem to clatter over rough surfaces in the road and feel too soft. I'm going to ask my dealer if anything can be done to stiffen them up. Rear end is fine. Paintwork could be better I guess but the bike looks really good overall.

So far I'm happy and desperate to get the first service done so I can travel at a reasonable speed.

Where did you get the speedo converter and/or sticker? I have a Keeway Speed 125 which is basically a Suzuki EN125 with a Honda CG125 engine lol. Cracking bike for the pennies I bought it for and the missus loves it.

Original owner had that done so sorry I have no exact details on how the speed conversion was done. I believe he got the place he purchased it from to do it.
