Was sat down this evening eating my tea when callender news came on. They did a lovely feature on bashing bikes.... more noticeably those who dare to speed.

Some nice chap was stood over the A64 telling the whole of Yorkshire about the evils of bikes and how fast we all go.

He went as far to say 'If a rider gets caught doing 30MPH above the posted limit the police can fast-track them through the courts- you could get caught speeding on monday and lose your licence on Thursday'

Thats just wonderful Clapping

its funny to think that I would get less preferential treatment (and mabye a lesser punishment?) if i decided to break into some poor old ladies house, give her a slap and nick her TV Shocked Eh?

What compounded this interview even more was the fact that some Moron on a Gixer decided to film himself doing well over 140mph on his bike between cars Clapping
- well done sir... they even took close ups as the spedo got around the 140 mark Evil or Very Mad

im starting to get sick of all the bike bashing lately... its honestly like living under a dictactorship (or a police state Thinking ) whats with everyone jumping on the bandwagon of bashing bikes?

- Rant over -

p.s. according to The Press its some bike safety week across Europe this week so the coppers are out in mega force with their money guns catching speeding bikes so please be cautious around North Yorkshire... seen loads of them out already Rolling Eyes

I saw a lot more police cars in swindon today compared to what I normally see.. but they were all going the opposite way to me with their lights on so it wasn't a problem Razz

There will always be speed nazis who think the world would be a much nicer safer place if everyone drove cars that only do 30, or better yet all used buses.. but thats not really a fun way to live so its not gonna happen.

If it weren't bikes it'd be something else, we're just getting stick at the moment cause the suns come out so the weekend warriors are coming out of hibernation Wink

You ever lived in a police state or in a country under a dictator? Thinking
"Oh no, people don't like what I choose to do! I'm being oppressed!" ....Don't know how good you've got it. Come on. Rolling Eyes

While they highlighted bike's it will also have hit home to a few car drivers who use the same road as a race track.

Look on the bright side at least in N Yorks there are no speeds cams as yet. But they do have a far higher presence on the roads than many other forces.

As ever if you get caught speeding, who's fault is it ?

I would have nobody to blame but myself if I got caught doing so. I certainly wouldn't start screaming and shouting about how my civil liberties are being encroached upon, because I know too well just how free we really are in this country.

You're right. And it's because they're all spoiled little brats who think they are entitled to more than they've already got.

There's already been a shocking number of bike deaths in North Yorkshire this year, 8 I think.
Anti-bike viewpoints are hardly surprising - people hear about the accidents and see reckless riding every weekend - what else can be expected?

I wouldn't worry about it too much - i mean it's not like anyone actually lives in North Yorkshire anyway, so it's only really people passing through that have to worry.

like has already been said, if it weren't us it would only be another niche group. like moderately sporty cars.

it's also true about the weekend warriors just popping up in droves again.

being a far smaller amount of bikes on the road compared to cars, we're easier to pick on. which is also made easier by what we can do.
a lot of things car drivers see as incredibly dangerous, we see being safe as houses.
take this for example https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=114062

Bikers and any other "minority" group have always been singled out! In fact, it seems to have got a bit better over the past 10-20 years or so, apart from the report as mentioned.

Yeah, you sometimes get your wannabe superheroes/twats on bikes who'll just ride like idiots everywhere all the time, but as we all know and others don't, is that the vast majority of bikers know there's a time and a place for such shennanigans and exercise caution accordingly - and are generally very good, alert, defensive road users. In my experience, there are far more twats behind the wheels of cars - but because car users are a majority it's harder to slag them off!

Joe Public/NIMBY-types need something to tut at and disapprove of. Maybe the report couldn't find any Chavs/Racists/Terrorists/Subversives (add/delete as applicable) to slate?

PS - the title of this thread made me think we were going to go back to the old discussion about MC/MCCs - it seems we're a little overdue for this recurring discussion!! Wink

Because its warmer, naturally more cops are out.
Poor buggers don't like being out when it's freezing outside and pissing with rain.

just keep careful guys.
My uncles only just got his license back.

Ditto.

Someone should call Trading Standards and get this thread closed down!
