hi all, i can understand various bike bits being "not for road use" like cans, visors, headlight covers etc, but why would a set of discka be not for road use?

i can understand perhaps that race disks might wear faster than road disks, but id expect to replace the pads rather than the disk!

so why are these not for road use?

About this product

These discs are not for road use. Low carbon billet steel discs unique to EBC. Lightweight alloy hubs anodised blue. Available in standard and oversized diameter. Removable / Rebuildable with alloy drive buttons. Complete with spare sets of high tolerance buttons (to change when disc tightens up). Outer cooling groove on disc ring. Tough low carbon steel to provide maximum safety and high friction, plus less shrinkage than iron or stainless.

I suppose one practical reason would be that they don't heat up quickly enough during road use, and as such not operate effectively.

Although in reality its probably because the manufacturer doesn't have them tested to comply with whichever quality standard is relevent.

I imagine they think that this won't adversely affect their sales, and as such, having them approved would be a waste of money.

Probably because of the tarty alloy carriers which will corrode to hell then fall apart when exposed to road salt and weather, in a similar way to the alloy banjos on some 'race' brake lines.

Your brake disc carrier collapsing during use does not bear thinking about.

that is rather scary Shocked it makes you think what else doesnt have a standard. what aftermarket bits are actually made of butter? hmm, i know top names have top names and prices for a reason, but i thought that at least brake disks would have some sort of safety standard rating....

scary stuf

This is why so many cheap made in China discs are appearing on Ebay.
