 Posted: 17:56 - 03 May 2007 Post subject: My RS50...is it a faulty model? |
 |
|
Hi guys I'm new to this forum.
Basically my query is if my 2007 rs50 is faulty - I bought it last week and the first problem I had was that the fuel light should come on when there's a limited amount of fuel left: I waited and truth be told, it never came on...however the shop did say they would sort it out on the first service.
More significantly though, I'm wondering whether the salesmen is a complete nob becuase he has said wrong things before like "there's no need to warm the bike up" when in actual fact there is. This lackens my trust in what he says. so, my bike was "fully derestricted" as the test ride only saw 22mph on a flat. Course nobody was happy, so all i know from riding is that I will do 30mph easily and probably 40 (although I'm running in, so have to keep below 7000rpm for most of the time). That takes me on to my main question - when i'm doing 30mph in 6th gear that is exactly 7000rpm which put me worng, but that seems lie a high revving for that speed in 6th! Anyway, from what I've seen the stock 07 rs50's derezzed go 50+ usually 55mph on flat. the 5000 rpm i have left i'm sure won't get me to that speed.......
so in essence is he lying by saying he's fully derestricted it because they woudn't want to be found out, or is the bike just faulty? Could it be made like that for 2007 models, or is it fine?
also, I have checked the exhaust and the 2nd pipe that comes out (when restricted) has clearly been cut to about an inch left, and welded. He SAID they have upjetted the carb too.....
thankyou for reading all that lol, and please help. |

haha ok
erm well my bike is an nsr125r so I'm not so sure why you need to know, but I have 14 on the front and 39 on the rear.
6 more teeth on the rear will make your acceleration better but with cut your top speed. You say thats on older models though? Might be worth asking a dealer what rear sprocket your meant to have on your year of bike? ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

well how are you riding, have you fully run your engine in yet?
if you have run in the engine, the only way your gonna establish your top speed is to ride up to the red line, change gear, go to the red line, change gear, keep doing that till your in top, and you should be at the bikes fastest speed.
However don't do that unless you've run the engine in. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

yeah like i said Ive done 190/500 miles so I won't do that now it's just my powerban seems to be around 5.5-6.5000 rpm which seems low, but i can't really go over 7000 to be on the safe side...however, saying that the engine sounds fine till you approach that 7k rpm mark then all of a sudden it becoames louder, is this normal? |

and your riding at 7000 at the highest? That will massively effect your top speed. Trust me on this, 2 strokes only perform well when being revved very hard. Especially the 50ccs, wait till you have reached the end of your running in period and you will fly. I know its a pain, I had to run in my nsr and it took forever just going round at 50-55 top speed, changing gear every 4 seconds, I hated it.. but was worth it now the bike seriously flies. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. good to hear, thanks mate, afterall I have only given it half throttle I'm being stupid for asking as i'll find out when the mileage has clocked up, it's just i can't see the revs declining at that speed, but like you say, 5000 may make alot of difference, thnaks. |

yeh it really does make a difference
when I was running in my bike I could do 6000rpm at max at first, this meant I had a top speed of 55mph roughly.
Now its fully run in I can go up to 11,000rpm and I can do 90mph, it would be over 100mph if I hadn't down geared it.. but I like the acceleration too much ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

it would go over 6000, I did a few times when running it in, it helps the piston rings to settle in a bit to occasionally give it some heavy revs.
Its a pain having to run it in, my only advice is to go out and ride lots and lots to get past those miles ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.
