Racing on public roads kills people,
Not exactly a news story, it was bound to happen and it did.

So you agree it's an unofficial race.

So it's racing on the public roads ... which gets people killed.

I'm surprised it's taken 9 years to be honest.

Wow thats sad, I saved a pic of that very Porsche from the start of the gumball at the weekend that someone one here took.

The Gumball is most definately a race, and as others have said it was always going to happen. In fact im suprised it took 9 years.

I wouldnt be too suprised if this is the last ever GB.

Are you claiming to be the organiser of the rally now? Rolling Eyes

are you affiliated with the owners/management of the gumball rally then? or were you on it?

either way, unless you're max then it's hardly earth shattering to tell us something we know...
otherwise what would be the point in all the finishing first what nots Shhh!

I agree, though the last 3 years have gotten out of hand, prior to that the Gumball was pretty discreat.

Fella, if you're affiliated to the event, i'd delete that statement - as in a court of law this is an admission!!

So large bike runs are all races aswell? It's a load of people in their fancy sports cars out for a big cruise, no worse than a group of power rangers on their sports bikes. Shit happens and unfortunately in this case the people that were injured were innocent. The attitude that the organisers took to cover up the whole situation was appalling.

It's an organised race. The first to finish gets a prize.

Hardly the same as a sunday blatt down the lanes on your bike.

Gumball aint a race, it is a rally, there are set meet points, and the like, not a straight start to finish poll, when some members meet, like the matlock meet in july, does the fact that we are meeting at points, then cruising in together mean we are racing?

thought not,

anders, what exactly is your connection with the event?

Karma sympathies to the folk who didn't make it, or might not

You're not fooling anybody.

race, n.
1. a contest of speed, as in running, riding, driving, or sailing.

Ok, its advertised as a "rally", but lets be honest if theres a group of 30-40 people in supercars across europe there not exactly going to stick to the national speed limits are they? Competitive streek will always take over people in this situation

Its an unofficial race, always has been and always will be

Isn't the cannonball bike rally then a race?
Which is then the same thing?

Sucks somebody died, but after seeing some of the accidents in the previous years it was bound to happen.

There's no prize for finishing first, agree it was blatantly going to happen at some point though. Wonder if the Cannonball Bike run will still go ahead(starts week after next I think), blatantly be more attention on illegal road races now, and afaik the Cannonball does actually give prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd to finish.
