usually get the ebooks off the net somewhere. Or even Java for dummies. Personally I hate Java with a passion, there are other technologies I'd rather use to achieve the same goal.

the eclipse site will have lots of java code as well

What do you want to know, where are you starting from ?
Bruce Eckels thinking in java is pretty good but not an intro.

I've been reading the blue j objects first book and getting a general feel for java.

I'm not trying to do anything in particular just teach my self it and concepts.

Java has it's uses in coding, but I much prefer to work with technologies whos runtime environments don't cause me grief on a daily basis. .NET just works.

ive read a lot of java books over my time and i would recommend these 2, they ar effectively the same book, the 2nd one is the updated version. Foget the internet, theres nothing like a good book.

i used, the XEMACS environment to program, but there are loads of programs to use.
