Simple, I know, but I've been bored today and god knows why I started thinking of it but have you ever noticed 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th are bollocks? 1 is one, and st is, well, st! so if you put them together you don't get first, you get onest!

Aaand, why is a building a called a building? while it's being built people are building it, then when they have finished building it its built, so surely a building should be called a built?

Nonsense I know, just thought I'd share my thoughts with you all! Rolling Eyes

Not true, there are quite a few (obscure) words that rhyme with those. You need to watch more QI. Tut Tut Wink

Interesting - I had to look it up Smile

Quote:
Q. They sell chicken, duck, quail, and some other eggs in a lot of stores. Is there a reason I haven't seen turkey eggs being sold?

A. Barnyard economics, babe. Turkeys don't lay that many eggs, and the ones they do lay are used to produce more turkeys. The average egg-laying chicken lays 300 or so eggs per year, while the average turkey produces only 100 to 120. Chickens come into production at 19 to 20 weeks of age, but turkeys don't get cranking until 32 weeks. Turkeys are also much larger, averaging 16 to 17 pounds compared to 3.5 pounds for chickens. So you'd need a lot more room for a bird that would take a lot longer to produce a lot fewer eggs.

Another problem is that turkeys go "broody" easily--they want to sit on their eggs and incubate them. In contrast, egg-producing white leghorn chickens have had the broodiness bred out of them. They lay and lay and have no desire to incubate their offspring or otherwise be maternal. You want to play in traffic? Fine! Whatever! Now let me go lay some more eggs. Proof that just because you can make a good breakfast doesn't mean you're a good mom.

QI never gets anything right—such as when they said Earth had 5 moons, one of which was Cruithne. Which is not a satellite of earth. Very Happy

Here's a refutation of their claim from the OED site[1]:
Oxford wrote:

Orange is one of those words that famously has nothing perfectly to rhyme with it. The other one is silver. However, the Oxford Rhyming Dictionary does show both these words as having half-rhymes (such as lozenge with orange and salver with silver).

The principle of a half-rhyme in these cases is quite simple. Whereas a full and stressed rhyme (e.g. hand / stand) or even an unstressed rhyme (such as handing / standing) contain vowels that are common to both words, a half-rhyme like orange / lozenge or silver / salver (technically speaking, pararhymes) has obvious differences between vowels in certain syllables.
