Let me just start by saying i have little knowledge of todays modern PCs. i lost touch of computers a while ago, when 2Ghz was the forefront of technology. So i ask you, oh gods of useless info. lol

i want to use the pc for gaming, and coursework and the like, but online gaming would be my main fancy.

Right, ive heard of these dual core processors. how good are they compared to a faster single processor? How fast do i really need? how much ram do i need? will i need a graphics card?

i seen this on DELL for £407, does it look like it will do the job? also what speed is the ruddy processor? 4 gHz?

That's 2gb of RAM, and no, it doesn't add up to 3.6 but it does more stuff in the same amount of time. If that makes sense!

so thats good right? lol
will it run things like games that require hight Mhz processors? like FPS games? halo 2 needs 2ghz processor i think.

also, will vista be installed? or can i install xp on it? iv heard theres lots of problems with vista?

other than that it looks the buisness.

erm just one more thing (im starting to sound like columbo lol)
can i download a movie, and burn it onto dvd and play it on a dvd player?

Well my processor is a 3800x2 running at 2.1ghz, its never let me down!

It will run your games, remember, Halo 2 requires Windows Vista (I think) and now Dell have given you the option to install XP.

Vista is OK for the average Joe.

And yes, though you need to convert it to DVD format.

Remember kids, downloading movies is illegal!

ok, thanks for the advice guys. il have a wee snoop around, but i guess il go for that one Thumbs Up

edit just priced that dell Godzgift, works out at £499! bit out of my price range. unless that was a special you saw or something?

on the dell site i put all the components like you had in your list, and it gave me the princely sum of £500 lol

I thought I might add, with the spec posted about without the GFX card, it might not have the slot on the motherboard if its fully intergrated. Wouldnt suprise me with a Dell.

Might be wrong but check it out.

Dont try and overclock a Dell either Wink.

simple solution, call up dell and ask, how many free PCI slots are there on the Motherboard. If you have some spare then just buy the graphics card separately

Same PC as me but I've got a different graphics card. I really like it especially as my old one was a P3 650Mhz with 192MB RAM Laughing

Managed to play all games I've tried on full detail no problem but I'm not a big gamer. Runs XP and Vista really well. Enjoy Thumbs Up

you will need either a USB MODEM or a adsl router. Normally the ISP like tiscali will supply a USB MODEM.

P.S. Tiscali is the worst ISP in the UK

I thought you were getting a router and networking both PCs?
Yes, you will need the disk, Tiscali will probably send you one for free, they don't want to lose a customer.

It will only get delivered, you have to set it up yourself - it aint hard, the cables will only fit in one port Very Happy

Routers are the way forward, wireless may be best seeing as (I think) you have a laptop? (any luck with whatever computer you were getting clean?)

I'll come and see you if I'm ever in Ireland! (which will probably in a year when I turn 17 and get a 125!) (do you need a passport to get into northern Ireland? I presume not, and I presume there's a ferry? Embarassed )
