Yay!!!

Got my May 18th NSR finally de-restricted after 600 mile break in. I was told by Honda that the last batch of NSR's was sold on this date. Guess that makes mine newest of them all.

Can't believe how much difference it makes taking out the restrictors. And what a b**ch it is to get them out. Not problem with the intake one, but clearing them spot welds out of the exhaust is a nightmare. Probably been better had I used the correct tools. Took it out for a blast last night, hit 90mph. Gotta be careful thought still haven't hit the 1000 mile run in period. 9000rpm is a bit much for now.

Also managed to get 600 mile service booked for next week. I know it should be free, but I am using a different dealer to the one I bought it off. Does £60 sound about right???

Congrats.. Smile welcome to the 33bhp gang.

I got my NSR late May too so mine must of been one of the last aswell. Derestricted it after about 1,500 miles. Done another 2,500 ontop of that since. And yeah the exhaust restrictor is a bugger but it's worth it.

Have fun, I did. Wink

Just buy an old model. So much easier Very Happy
Enjoy the extra power.

But its closer to something like 24bhp from the NSR and not 33bhp.

Strange... I can keep up with my mates 400 until about 90ish and he just had it restricted to 33. Confused

The NSR is 23.something BHP when derestricted. Well, thats what Dannys 2001 full power NSR showed on the Big CC Shootout dyno.

In regards to the service, I would have thought it should be free at any Honda Dealer. And £60 for it does sound a bit of a rip off IMO, as other than change the oil and check basic stuff I don't think they really do anything to it. Any reason why you are using a different dealer to the one you bought it from?

Yea mine is 23.7bhp.
Yours might have marginally more bhp because mine's done a lot of miles without anything in the engine being replaced.
Enjoy the extra power though, it's great for a few weeks. Very Happy

Yeah the service is free, but only if you take it back to the dealership you bought it from. I had to do 300 mile round trip to go and fetch my bike from London. Don't fancy doing it again just for a free service. So I booked it in at Pidcocks Honda dealer in Nottingham. They seem ok... noticed they organise a lot of bike meets and days out. Quite encouraging, means they not just interested in taking money. They must actually enjoy what they do aswell.

Definately enjoying extra power, but like you say... sure the novelty will wear off soon.

One thing I did notice is that the bike is very smokey now when you start it up. And also some time the accelerator gets stuck about 2mm into twisting it.

Any ideas???

Being smokey's not unusual that's how they should be.

Not sure about the acceleration bit - do you mean when you accelerate hard it seems to cough and spit out loads of smoke? That's just because it hasn't warmed up enough yet if this is the case.

No.... I mean when I twist handle back to accelerate it locks at about 15% throttle. Is maybe like accelerator cable is stuck or something. Feels like when you quickly pull a seat belt and it locks up. But when it locks and you let clutch out the engine nearly stalls cause there aren't enough revs.

As for the smoke, it stops once engine is warm. But its got a strong petrol smell.

Gonna get Honda to check it out on the 600 mile service it's having next week.

1) Remove the seat, the undo the tank Allen bolt and lift up the tank, turn the fuel tap off and un-attach the fuel hose. Undo the
nut and bolt holding the tank to the frame and lift the tank off.

2) Undo the two bolts holding the airbox in place to the frame and use a screwdriver to undo the cir-clip (figure 1) holding the airbox to the carb. Pull the petrol runoff hose off the airbox and pull the airbox off the carb. The airbox should now pull out completely.

3) Undo the bolt holding the plastic tray on which the servo motor is housed to the frame, do this by taking out the bolt (figure 2) and uncliping the plastic clip (figure 3) now pivot the tray towards the headstock giving you room to work on the carb.

4) Remove the small hose (figure 4) attached to the left side of the carb (facing the way the bike is facing) and undo the circlip holding the carb onto the intake rubber (figure 5). There are two hoses coming out of the top of the carb which lead to nowhere, leave these and the float bowl spill hose on the bottom attached, now pull the carb away and leave it dangling to one side.

5) Undo the 4 bolts (figure 6) holding the intake rubber to the engine and take off the whole lot to reveal the intake tract. If there is a gold intake restrictor attached to this get rid of it. This is the restrictor plate and you can clearly see that it stops some of the fuel flow into the crankcase.

6) If your bike did not have this plate then it was not restricted in the intake, if the plate was there you should have pulled it off
by now. Now re-assemble everything reversing the steps you followed to take it apart.

7) Once the bike is back together try starting it. Remember to make sure you turned the fuel tap back on... It may take a while
for the bike to start running properly, after about 5 minutes it should be back to normal.

I checked the throttle again, seems like the throttle cable is locking in the engine block somewhere. I will get honda dealer to check it out on service. Should be free as bike is still under warranty.

It should be, I wouldn't mention about de-restricting it, as some dealers might get funny about it then.

Sounds not too bad mate. I was in a similar situation to you and I couldn't get the service done for less that 100 quid.

northie, i had exactly the same thing a little while after i de-restricted mine, the throttle wasn't opening fully, was just being blocked by something, or so it felt. Basically, if that happens and the throttle snaps back when you let go of it, its not the cable. The problem I had was that somethnig had worked its way loose at the carb end of things, I couldnt fix it myself, got a garage to do it, but im reckoning its the same problem. Good luck Wink
