My Z1000 if fuel injected, but has a choke switch/lever. I've never needed to use it to start even on the coldest of winters days when I had to clear the snow off the seat before riding off.

Curiosity finally got the better of me and while the engine was running I put the choke to on. Revs picked up, then the engine bogged down and died. I've left it alone since then.

Anyone else find it odd than an FI bike has a choke lever ? Confused Confused

Not as much a choke as a fast idle, just follow the 'choke' cable down and all it does is up the revs slightly at startup. Wink

Hi

Probably just opens the throttle a touch or opens a secondary passage to bypass the throttles.

Fuel injection can just increase the mixture to compensate for the engine being cold but without some kind of idle control valve it can't do anything really useful about the low idle speed.

All the best

Keith

Not so, Toby. It means the rider has more control over what he/she can do with their bike. This makes it superior to the automated made for idiots type Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I read on another forum that its as said above a fake kind of choke. It ups the idle speed rather than works the fuel. Now that we're on the subject, I can never get the bike to start without the "choke" on a really cold day and I have an 04 Z750 which is fuel injected Confused Maybe just my starter motor though Neutral

My Hayabusa was fuel injected but still used to have a choke, as far as I could tell it just made the engine idle a little faster, although I have been told it makes the ECU retard the engine timing a little.
