PostPosted: 21:18 - 08 May 2007    Post subject: Kwak GT550 - advice? Reply with quote

A friend of a friend has an old Kwak gt 550 sat in his garage, been there for years since the kids dads diabetes became too bad for him to be able to ride, anyway its just rotting away and he would pass it on too me for £25-£50 ish. paperwork and all.

I ride a Bandit 6 at the moment but am going to sell that when i pass the car test and wait until my 33bhp restriction runs out before buying something else.

Anyway onto my point, I was thinking of buying this 550, stripping it down and getting it all sorted out during my 18 months or so of bike-less-ness. The when I come to buy a full power bike, run the 550 as my commute to work.

one thing I do fancy doing tho is making it look like an ed lawson (like the big muscle bike out now) and put some streetfighter bits on, how difficult would this be? any advice people could give, how hard are part to come by ect ect

If you're planning on commuting on it you'd be better off adding a fairing, top-box and heated grips rather than any streetfighting bling.

Top workhorse the GT550 though, tough as old boots. Had the 750 myself as my first bike in '95. Smile

There's no pont turning it into a Lawson rep as its a shaft drive and would never do it justice. Its a virtually bullet proof bike that will go round the clock if you look after it and if that pic is indicative of its current condition, Bite his hand off. Thumbs Up

I was, unless it's the one in the picture.

Fix it with the minimum possible effort, paint it matt black and ride it.

Buy it! , and take the kwak logo off the tank and seal up the holes, they rust there ,

other wise it is indestructable , it handles well but is heavy and if you are brave in the twisty sections can mix it with super sports.
