Career change?
I currently work as an accountant, I don't make much money, I've invested 6 years into this career path ,passed all my exams and currently shooting for an extra of tax expert and I still make very little mone,
I;m thinking of packing it in , I feel bored and frustrated daily , and feel dead inside, should I? , I want to quit and do something else because the pay is utterly crap, and progression seems
non existant, work for accountants which are so tight with their money they offered me a 0% rise this year (effectively a 15% pay cut), and the constant need to take work home is annoying me crazy.
everybody says to me keep going at it big bucks will eventually
come they haven't and its pretty much a Mcjob type pay, or that I've invested so much time into it , it will be a massive waste to go back. My peers seem to be in a similar situation as me.
What does everybody think?.
Although of course a career change means I'm back to square 1 again , wheras after 6 years of career investment I am virtually still at only square 2 ,
Any thoughts?

Go for it, don't sit doing something you hate. I spent 30 years doing the same thing of which the last 10 i hated. In the end i jumped rather than hang on for the payoff..
Best move i ever made, now feel like i have my life back and enjoy going to work, rather than trying to think of a excuse not to.
You could always fund a change by doing a bit of accounting on the side, if your field of training allows for it. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Hmm, dunno the exact logistics of it but as far as my dads always led me to believe you are shat upon from up high as an accountant.
As a chartered account, you get to drop the kecks and take aim.
Might be worth looking into it (its obviously hard/time consuming/soul destroying or else more would do it) if money is the main criteria for you?
Plus im pretty sure you can convert a degree in accountancy to allow you to do the rest of the training to become a solicitor/barristor.
Couldnt remember the logistics at all im sorry, but i know you can do conversions from other 'decent' degrees. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

I don't know where you're based, but I would expect that you should be getting paid NO LESS than £30k, which as you well know is well above national average.
Further more, you should have a fairly clear career progression path to where you want to be. If this is not the case, then I can only conclude that your firm is taking the piss.
If you hate the job (which would seem unlikely given the amount of effort you have put in to date), then you may as well quit, but always remember the grass is not neccessarily greener. If you do want to continue in the profession, get in touch with one (preferably two or three) of those vile creatures known as recruitment agents, and they will fall over themselves to place you. If nothing else it gives you an idea of the market.
Lets face it, most people don't find accountancy earth shatteringly exciting (I know I don't), but then again, most people don't enjoy their job, whatever it may be.
I think you have an opportunity to earn some decent cash, and have a good career, do a bit more research in your industry first, before you jump ship totally.
Good luck |

I think pretty much zilch, all companies promise the earth when you are signing up , I;ve been here 13 months passed more exams , and career advancement has been nil

Would you actually enjoy the job once you got the money, or would you even be able to put up with it.
Possibly easier to walk out of a job you hate when you havn't got used to the money.
All the best

I'm taking babyyam's view of the world ie work , take your cheque and go play at weekends, thus I'd tolerate it , thing is the wedge is depressingly small, which means that this theory doesn't really work very well for me, ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
