Why is my speedo not working?

Well my speedo has not been working for a while now and they are strugaling to find the problem. They believe it may be related to when they first took my front wheel of at another garage and i got a squeek when walking the bike around.

The thing is it will either not work at all or it will work at low speed/revs then just drop of to 0. They noticed that when they put a new spacer in for the speedo drive and spin the front wheel the spacer begins to crack and break. So today they had it for an hour and measured it up to a good wheel and found they only difference was the one bearing not seated properly. They reseated all of the bearings i drove of and same thing happens again.

Now they are looking for a spare speedo drive they have and will call me when they find it but i was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could be causing it. In the last 4-5 tank fills it has shown a total mileage of about 40 miles so it doesnt work more than it does and usually once it does go to 0 then it stays there.

sounds like the speedo drive.there are two metal tabs on the drive wich need to line up in two holes on the wheel. when they put the front wheel on they probably didnt line these up,and bent the metal tags.

had same prob whith a rs 125 when i put her in 4 new front bearing turned out to be the speedo drive
