As the title states, im looking to have a carboot.
Back at my mums are all sorts of things i no longer want, i've never done this before and wanted to ask for some advice.
My old man was saying that when you set up people are literally trying to steal shit from your car!
I want to know the basics, how do i price things, what are pointless things to take, what makes things sell....anything really just so i understand a bit better.
Thanks
Killa

depends just how dodgy the car boot sale is , many I've been to have stolen M&S stuff which you are supposed to take for refunds,
+15%-25% on anything you intend to sell cus they'll knock off that amount , and if you expect something to sell for £100 , expect to get about £75-80 for it or even £50 for it,
target your audience properly , don't say like take organic foods to chav city I've seen that happen and the shop made £1 all day.
Also arrange things so that that are ALL within eye view , or just use string to attach ££££ things to the tables , people WILL nick things. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Ive done two carboots selling my old shit when i was going to move to cyprus.
First thing to watch out for are the people who pay for early entry, they start ripping your bags of stuff apart trying to get it all out before you ahve put it all out to display. Not many will try to steal but keep your eyes open.
Dont let things go for stupid money, you will get some people asking half of your allready marked down price, and others saying "but what if it doesnt work". I was selling an external sound card, 2 and a half years ago it cost me £120 all i was asking was £20 for it, i had some bloke trying to littrally walk away leaving a fiver there. Tell them where to go and dont drop on your price to much. Some people were saying £1 was to expensive for brand new never read books, with the £7.99 retail price on the back. Oh and the sound card went about 2 hours later for an agreed price of £15 quid. Oh offer people deals on multiple purchases, they love it.
Just goes to show really. Get yourself heard and just get out there and sell. ____________________ My Bike Pics |

Pretty much as said above ................. I have done a few car-boots with my sister, and they have been great fun.
Only things I can really add to the advice already given, is to try and make sure that there are at least 2 of you on the stall ..... one to serve and one to make sure nothing gets nicked (cos it will).
It is also handy to have 2 of you there in case you need a toilet break.
Take a flask and something to eat as well, can feel like a long morning and you dont want to spend your profit at the burger van.
Take a bum-bag with you with lots of change in it, and to put your takings in.
Try to put price labels on things before you pack them into the car to take to car boot ...... some customers like to see exactly how much something is without having to ask the seller, if something has no price you tend to perceive it as being more expensive than it probably this.
Try not to look at what is on offer on other stalls, or you might end up taking more home with you than you actually took in the first place.
Hope you have a great time and sell loads and makes lots of money. ____________________ Biker Gifts

For items that will sell for over a tenner this is true. But I recently did one, and I went through everything I own and found loads of old crap I no longer needed. Much of it wasn't going to sell on ebay, or if it did I might have got a quid for it. When you factor in ebay listing, final value fee and paypal costs, you dont end up with much on small purchases. Also you have to fanny about photoing it, typing about it and listing it, which takes ages if you're doing alot of stuff.
I shifted loads of old tat, it was amazing the shit people were giving me good money for broken ornaments, broken watches, sold a bunch of rubbish straight to video DVDs for £2 each, having bought them brand new for 99p each last year!
Most of what I didnt sell I chucked away at the end.
They do go diving in to your stuff as soon as you open the boot though, didn't notice anyone trying to nick stuff, although I was keeping an eye, coz most of the punters looked like pikeys.
Oh and coz the people who like doing things like this are nutters, you have to get up at silly o'clock. Ours started at 4:30...AM ____________________ Present: GS650 Katana - Getting ready for summer touring!
