Hey basically i am having troubles with a bike shop, i wont mention their name, they took my bike 3 weeks ago for a warrentry repair and since they have had it they have done nothing they keep saying they are waiting on parts, where do i stand on this as they keep changing their minds on when i will get my bike back and i need it for work, is there anyway i can get a courtesy bike with them doing it on warrentry or anything ?

best wishes

Unlikely you will get a hire bike from them...

what bike do you have man?

even for ducati parts from italy, 3 weeks seems a bit excessive

Its a possiblity they have taken on the work but dont have the time to do it so are fobbing you off with excuses?

You say warranty repair? what was wrong with it, what parts did it need?, i usually always ask if it can be done then and there while i wait (smaller jobs obveously) or explain that i need the bike and i will bring it in when they get the parts.

From the tone of your post though it sounds like they are messing you around, if it all possible get your bike back and take it somewhere else and never go back?

most bike shops don't like doing warranty work, due to the fact it could take a while for them to get paid for it all

It's just taken me 2 weeks to get a new gasket set, speedo cable and various other bits because the shop said it would be a few days, popped back 3 times in 2 weeks and eventually when the parts arrive, was told they had to get them from different supplier Cos last one didn't dispatch properly etc.. Conclusion? now use another shop

I'd be popping in asap and tell them you need it, so want it back as you took it in, in xxx amount of days. And if they give loads of excuses, write to head office, or phone but let them you intend on doing this Thumbs Up

When I had trouble with a bike shop I found out where I legally stood, fit for purpose etc etc. Got them to agree a date in writing when the bike would be fixed otherwise they would refund me in full. They did not fix it, I got a full refund.

You have to know where you stand, I'm no legal expert but a bit of research on the net can make people who know nothing shit thier pants. If you require any help PM me and I'll give you my MSN if you get stuck.

If it's just the head gasket it shouldn't take them more than 2 hours to do. And it's not exactly a rare model so the parts should be available the next day. 3 weeks is taking the piss, even if they are busy.

I haven't had anything on warranty so i'm not sure how it works. Does it have to be repaired at that specific dealer or can you take it to any? If so i'd go down there in the morning, take it back, and try another dealer. Writing a letter of complaint to both the dealer and Yamaha UK.

Ignoring that its being repaired under warranty (or not being repaired under warranty more accurately), under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 goods have to be fit for purpose. Speak with Consumer Direct who can give you details of what your rights are and what your options are.

There is no requirement for a courtesy vehicle to be provided however the Sales of Goods Act does say "If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer" so see what Consumer Direct say.

Mentioning something in conversation to one of the managers there about how you're speaking with Consumer Direct may well give slight encouragement in repairing your bike. Wink

Some garages put warranty work after cash jobs for obvious reaons. We try not to but there's also extra form filling-in involved with warranty claims which puts you off starting the job unless you're feeling really keen.

Go down there with someone who knows what they're talking about (no offence) and deal with the guy face to face.

Drain the coolant, undo HT lead and remove spark plug, undo 4 nuts, prize off cylinder head, stuff cylinder with cloth so that you can clean off knackered gasket goo without all the crap falling into the cylinder, check head for warpage, check condition of cylinder and head, put new gasket on and replace cylinder head tightening to correct torque, replace spark plug and HT lead, refill cooling system and check for leaks, start engine and run until it reaches operating temperature, check for leaks, change the oil and filter in case it was contaminated when the gasket leaked.

2 hours isn't unreasonable. Laughing
