Sounds like mine did when restricted.
The easiest way to tell would be to take your exhaust off and look to see if there is a big pipe like object in there see https://www.nsr125.com for more on that. Make sure you change your exhaust gasket after removing that.
The harder one to look for is between the carb and the engine, again see https://www.nsr125.com for more details.
Have a search for nsr on the forums, theres plenty on how to upjet the bike after de restricting it. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

the de-restriction chart written in nsr125.com is not applicable on foreign specs bikes such as french, swiss, german . these bikes have electronic restrictions, different barrels and exhaust pipes . your serial number tells the story : it begins by ZDCJC22 then 2 ways for the next caracter . a "8" shows a european sell and only a honda shop can give you the specs (year 1993-1997)
a letter gives you the country (A & D = italy , B=france,C=UK & IRL,E=switzerland) then "0" then the year (W=1998,X=1999,Y=2000,1=2001 end of production) and finish by "F" and 6 digits showing the engine serial number
so if you have A-C-D you can use the nsr125.com chart , if it's B or E download https://www.geneva-racing.com/~alains/NSRtips.doc ____________________ the worst day fishing is better than the best day working |

Sounds like it is definitely restricted. What is the 0-60 time? I just had mine de-restricted, before that, my top speed was around 75mph, with a 0-60 around 11 seconds. Now, my top speed is around 100mph, possibly will do more. But the differenc in acceleration put a grin on my face. Now the 0-60 is about 6-7 seconds, and i get all the way up to 11000 rpm in all gears.
It will get to 40mph in 1st gear up to the red line,
If it is a euro spec bike, your speedo would usually be in kmh. And the restrictions will be in the CDI. But the UK spec bikes are restricted mechanically. A baffle in the exhaust header, which will need to be drilled out. A baffle behind the carb which will need removing. YOU WILL also need to upjet the carb, otherwise it may run too hot and blow up on you. but new jets are only £13-£14 from dellorto. A cheap price for peace of mind. I also replaced the plastic reeds with carbon ones, and the chain and sprockets. Also modified the airbox to allow more airflow. And it sounds a bit more gutsy too.
Now it is fully de-restricted. Only thing i have not done, is replace the standard exhaust with an Arrow system. The performance is fine without it, and i could not justify spending £200+ for an extra 5-10mph.
But have a look at Alains de-restriction guide, and NSR125.com. This will help you find out how the bike is restricted, and how to de-restrict. |

no dave , they are still working , i've ordered since 2 years a lot of jets for my mates in france . https://www.dellorto.co.uk mail to Mattew Cooper [email protected]
ph : 0118 943 1180 :: Fax : 0118 943 1190
DemoNSR the biggest restriction is in the RC/valves control unit (TV-124) which do not open fully the valves . this cause spluttering at about 10500 rpm , but i admit , due to the transfers design in the barrel the engine is more efficient in the range 2000-8000 than the UK specs . So these 2 units work well TOGETHER and it appears than changing one do not give you what you expected
changing reeds and plug give a smoother engine and a bit more acceleration , the biggest improvement is with no doubt a race exhaust . my preferences go to (in order) : Jollymoto , gianelli , shark, tyga, arrow, athena . ____________________ the worst day fishing is better than the best day working |

Hi Alains, and thanks for your knowledge. i did consider a new exhaust system, But since removing all the other restrictions, my bike produces a 0-60 time of 6-7 seconds, and i have had it up to an indicated 97mph on a flat road. The bike still seemed to have a bit more to go, but i wimped out because the front end seemed to be really light.
Do you think a performance exhaust would give me much more? and would it be worthwhile? Also, how would i stop the front wheel feeling so light, as it nearly lifts off the ground?
But your de-restriction advice is awesome, my bike feels like a different machine, especially the acceleration.
Thanks, DemoN |

From what I hear, the jets in the restricted version are not altered from standard, which, off the top of my head, are 132-40-65. If yours are these size it isn't neccessary to change them. These are the OEM jets that Honda put in for an unrestricted bike.
So, YOU WILL NOT need to upjet after a derestriction. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

Derestricting and swapping the exhaust are two different things.
The bike comes from the manufacturer full power. The dealers then sell the bikes restricted so it can meet it's target customers i.e. learners. They do not fit smaller jets to the bike. So when you derestrict, there is no need to rejet, as you are putting the bike back to factory default.
Changing the exhaust means it is no longer standard, and so you rejet to compensate.
Upjetting a derestricted, standard bike, will mean you are running rich. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

How much time do you spend at full throttle? That's when the main jet comes into play really, so if you're not thrashing everywhere, the plug will probably be fine.
I did notice a BIG difference in the engine though when I used the larger jets. The engine bogged down at about 10k in 6th and acceleration was much worse than when I had standard jets in. And considering I've had no engine work done at all for 14k miles, I think it's safe to say I'm not running lean. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

Pretty much all the time I'm always hammering it everywhere
and I get it run all the way up to the red line no problems even in 6th, it only ever feels boggy if I accidentally hit the red line, which I kinda take to be a good thing cause I don't want to be there ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

Also, would a restricted bike not run too rich, if the jets were standard size for a full power bike? |

the standart jets for a full power UK bike are 135,40,60 for restricted & imports they are 132,38,55 and the needle is set on the middle notch . after plenty of testing it appears that the best setting is 138,42,65 . upjetting is the most important thing especially if you have a race exhaust type (jollymoto, gianelli, arrow etc...) . why ? because de-restriction allow the engine to go higher on RPM (consequently in speed) and air flow in the box is bigger so the mixture become leaner and leaner . eberybody running a 2 strokes that lean mixture cause seizure . you cannot discuss , this a fact .
PS using of a cone filter is not recommanded with this bike because the carb settings will change with the weather , idle is impossible to stabilise and risk of seizure is big . if you could put it in a box as protection it could be ok , but why to do that when you've got a genuine box even it's boring to dismantle reaching any part in the bike ____________________ the worst day fishing is better than the best day working |
