Had some new tyres fitted today, picked the bike up and travelled about 4 miles towards home, coming up to a set of lights with a guy on an '02 ninja (636?) just in front of me. Lights changed to green as we approached them, we accelerated away then I heard sirens. The guy in front got around halfway across the junction when a paramedic ambulance appeared and smashed head on into the nijna. The guy on the ninja was thrown into the air, I grabbed the front brake and lost the front end straight away due to wet road and new tyres (this all happened in seconds). Picked my bike up (broken screen), got it off the road and went to check on the other guy, found him on the floor behind a car that was behind the paramedic ambulance, while I was going down he had somersaulted over both cars and landed on the floor. Checked to see if he was OK, amazingly he had a cut to the head and ankle, but otherwise appeared ok. The bike on the other hand has seen better days, the front end totally gone, petrol tank 10 foot away from the bike, seat was 10 feet in the other direction, lights were embedded in the radiator of the ambulance. I then waited for an hour or so to give statements to the police and ambulance investigation officers, then had a bit of a shaky ride home.
The road he got hit on was Battersea Park Rise, bike was a green ninja, no lower fairings.
It's a long shot , but if anyone here knows him, or if he posts on here, get well soon fella.
Ride safe people.

I imagine they sent out a fresh ambulance, and the NHS's insurance will front the costs - or they'll fight it, saying the guy should have acted accordingly to the sirens or something.

Hope your bike isn't too damaged from that, bad timing!

Don't get me wrong I feel major sorry for the guy.

But ambulances are pretty easy to spot. Let alone with bloody great sirens blaring.

I hope he gets his bike fixed but I would be worried that it might go 50/50.

Hope he gets well soon. If you going to hit anything at least a ambulance is handy for 1st aid....

But if you ever hear a siren goming up to traffic lights etc slowing down is the best course of action, more so if they are green for you. Till you can locate where they are comming form.

Not much you can do when youre in the middle of a junction, especially since they have the ability to run red lights using their weird remote control things.

Ambulance didn't put the sirens on till the last minute - really was nothing the guy could do.

The way you said it was head on though, if it was a cross roads surely you have fairly good visibility ahead of you to see it coming..

I feel for the guy if it didn't put its sirens on till late. Did you add that in your statement?

cant go 50/50 if lights were on green for the biker, the emergency vehicle still has to drive with care.

I had ear plugs in once, didnt realise there was a copper behind me, luckily he wasnt after me and i wasnt speeding, so he went past, think he was behind me a few seconds.

hope you, your bike, the guy and his bike are okay, and get fixed soon.

Steve.

It was head on, the direction we were going has traffic coming from the left , and the junction is partially obscured by a high wall, so its hard to see past the second or third vehicle at the lights. The lights also have no delay between one side going red and the other going green, so in the paramedics eyes he would have seen no traffic at the junction until the last minute. I said in both statements that there were no sirens until the last minute, my first post was a bit rushed as I'm still getting over the sight of the guy flying over the top of the ambulance.

I went pass the aftermath of the crash on the way home looked like a very nasty crash the bikers was very lucky to survive that sort of impact.

Fair do's then. As you say not much that could be done, Best hope would be that ambulance has slowed down a good bit, as even on B&2's that should not proceed unless its safe to do so.
From your 2nd post sounds like most of the impact speed was the bikers, even then its still tough.

there was an accident yesterday on the walsall road in Rushall. Not sure on the details, but there was a bike, van and 2 cars i think that were involved.
Apparently the biker had his leg ripped off completely from the hip joint.
hope he/she are ok.
Will post more details when i get some

I do find it funny when ambulances and hearses end up crashing. there's a dark irony to it Laughing

Glad you;re both ok Thumbs Up he's lucky he wasn't engulfed in fire since the tank buggered off to the other side of the road!
