I'd make sure you were certain on the Euro breakdown cover mate. Other than that sounds like your going to have a cracking time! Enjoy Thumbs Up

Hi, There is loads of information on this kind of thing in the Touring section.

I remember reading something recently that in many European countries you legally need a high vis jacket if you break down and you're outside the vehicles at the side of the road. Although I can't remember if this included France.

Might be worth taking a small plastic bottle of oil - if its hot and you ride a lot you might find it needs topping up even if it doesn't normally use any.
Engine oil seems expensive in France.

Don't forget to ride on the right!

Take all your paperwork with you - V5C, insurance document and MoT certificate (if you need one).

Be aware that the French Police can impose on the spot fines for speeding - and if you don't have the cash, they'll take you to a cashpoint to get some.

They can (and will) confiscate your vehicle if you're too far over the limit. You will have to walk from there. If you're on a Motorway, they'll give you a lift to the nearest exit.

Have fun - I'm off there on Wednesday for a few days too.

I'd get medical insurance as well.

The health card only gives you what the French get for free (its not the same as the NHS). You have to pay for treatment and then you can claim some/all back. ( Rolling Eyes I had the joy of going to uni in France).

Plus if you have a bad spill, proper insurance will repatriate you / air ambulance etc.

NB Some travel medical insurance doesn't cover motorcycles so check.

also im my experience, try to speak at least a few words of french. You make the effort and the locals will return it 10 fold, even though 90% of them can speak english. We ended up in lyon parking our bikes in the resturant of the hotel just cos we (my mate) tried to ask for our rooms in very bad, broken french. The guy laughed at his poor efforts and couldn't do enough for us!! it was the same all the way down and back.
