AutoGlym, yay or nay?

Hello again, I want to wash my bike and as it's new I can't help but want it to stay looking mint as poss. I want to do the full good wash, and after I was wondering, would autoglym be any good on the fairings and/or the metal? (I have a 2007 Aprilia RS50).

Does anybody use it on theirs and if so, is it easy to apply, worthwhile and sounds silly, but would I damage my bikes body in anyway? lol.

Oh also, I heard WD40 wouldn't be good for the pivoting moving parts on my bike, IE: the gear shifter mechanism, as it's not meant to be a lube really. It can also wear off quickly.
So, would PTFE spry be a good choice?

Well, Tristan, I'll let you be the judge of that. The bike's been washed & polished with Autoglym, the race bin infront hasn't...

I use Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner (normal quick wash, rinse & shammy), followed by Super Resin Polish (small amount on cloth, spread it on the bike and leave to dry for a few minutes, then buff off) and to finish, the Extra Gloss Protection (even smaller amount, leave for 30-60min, then buff it off).

To start, you'll need to hose the bike down to remove any rubbish, so it doesn't scratch the bike as you're washing it. Muc-Off spray is great for this.

For cans & unpainted plastics you'd need a different product, I'm sure Autoglym do them, though.

Halfords seem to always have an offer on Autoglym: buy three for the price of two. Depending on your finances, you might want to wait for that, as they're about £8-12 per bottle. They're actually running this promotion now, as seen here.

re the above, I also use these products, both on my bikes and car, and I tell you what, they are superb, the picture of the Ducati is not an over representation, the paint will look that good, and will last for ages.

well i have a problem. firstly, I dopnt think my bikes fairing is paint but if it is, its plastic, not metal like in the picture.

I ave just bought some of the castrol silicon spray saying "renovates and protects plastics and rubber" but have found castrol do a similar bike polish in the same can... will it strip paint etc before i put it on??? help me.

Autoglym polish isnt that good in the real world, more hype than anything... go onto the autoexpress site and look at the previous polish tests they did, super resin was near last... best of the bunch was Comma at £4 a bottle and outlasted all others!...

But anyway back to the question at hand....

Ya RS50 is a matt finish so avoid any white polishes as they will leave it looking terrible... something silicone based would be good as it would clean and shine at the same time, or the old time bike favourite Crystal glo will have it looking superb!

WD40 or GT85 will work well if sprayed onto a cloth and used to wipe over the frame, swingarm etc (most metal surfaces apart from brake discs ) and will help stop the tarnishing and corrosion!

Yes its painted but a texturised matt paint.... so rough and dull finish.

If youve got some silicone based spray polish its all ya need!
