Its only been on two days and i'm toying with ripping the thing off already.

I've broken my scaphoid, any past experiences of life in plaster and how to make it easier? things like bathing, sleeping and sore bits appearing.

Thanks!

Yer fuckered, Thats the worse bone to break as it has almost no blood supply to aid healing. Mines pinned together & I still manage to rebreak it at least once a month, couple of days in a wrist brace & it "kinda" heals... until the next time....

I broke mine and I still got a plate and four pins in there.

Am waiting for age-related arthritis to set in.

All I can remember is, that its a bugger to do up (and undo) your bra with a busted scaphoid.

I got some sorta funky plastic moldable cast on mine, they soften it in hot water and then mold it onto ya hand, it was blue, comes in purple as well, but purple is a bit girlie.

Not near as itchy as that plaster and (seemingly) horsehair rubbish.

Can't use hammers, punch anything, ride for very long (& it fractures again if I hit the brakes a bit hard) limited use of air/power tools owing to vibration (sanders, grinders etc), Drop things all the time, can't carry much weight in that hand, can't push on anything with that hand or it fractures, difficulty using screwdrivers/drills etc.
I think ya may be knackered with that bass.... & you'l never be a drummer..

Hi

Be carfeful with the knitting needles they can make it worse, and dont loose anything in there.

For bathing use a plastic bag and gaffer tape or for the posh option Buy one of these

Healing varies mine have healed up ok but do ache in bad wether or lots of use, I dunno how it would affect bass playing. You can have it plated if it plays up (but not always on the NHS).

You will get use to after a few days and it should stop hurting too

Regards
Charlotte

I'll second that one, mine aches in damp weather and if I lift too many boxes at work it'll be a bit sore for a couple of days. Apart from that, I've been mainly unaffected Karma

ive broke both of my wrists two times each. Rolling Eyes

yeah i do ache in bad weather and suffer from some weakness on my left hand because of this but it doesnt bother me too much and i just "work" that side more to get it stronger.

But no it doesnt really bother me.... yeah they are weaker now and ive got to watch incase it breaks again (mainly coz the doctors said that if i break it again its getting pinned and theres no way im getting pin marks on my arm Twisted Evil) but hey! Cool

Hmm thanks, seems mixed as to the results but mainly good!

I feel off a speedway bike, walked around for a week with it broken!

IF it doesn't heal, does anyone know if I can elect to have it pinned privatly? What is the incidence of badly healed ones being pinned on the NHS? I guess this is all very subjective and dependent on what is most appropriate.
Arrghhh, I actually palyed bass properly with it broken before it was in a cast. oops!

thanks!
