Yes it's possible, and yes they're looking into it (In Wales at least).

Not the main focus of the story in the link, but it certainly jumped out at me (Not to mention the use of a decapitated motorcyclist to deter speeding).

Read the link, it'll all become clear.

they have to tell you were they are, so a dab of black paint out the car door in the dead of night will sort that.

I doubt they'll ever use them. They'd be far too easy to steal.

Also as steveh said, people would end up painting them. I do believe that would be dangerous for motorists

You ever tried getting a cat's eye out of the road?

I have, it won and I stumbled away defeated.

Nasty little beasts. Linky to some info on what they look like and how they work.
Would seem the jocks already have trials of them.

No point in these at all.

The entire point in speed cameras is supposed to be to stop people speeding through a visible deterent, just like the copper in his brightly coloured car.
All these would be is a secret camera which the likes of MCN would have yet another campaign against, wait for next weeks edition Smile

He said both accidents had been caused by the excessive speed of the dead men.

I'd say they should look at who they issue licences to rather than speed, dead people should't be allowed on the road, they are worse than old people at driving.

But on a serious note, how much fun would it be to find the cats eyes cameras and see if you can pull them out!

Not as bad as boy racers. Thery're the biggest threat around here, crossing the centre line everywhere, doing 60 on 30mph, residential, single-lane streets...

Standard equipment remote-control explosives, anyone? Mr. Green

You bikers all drive too bloody fast anyway.
It is about time there was a workable method introduced to curb that behaviour.

The technology is there for the camera in the cats eye but the cost and accuracy will be prohibitive. The PC Prat is just using it as scare tactics, abit like don't look under your bed there is a monster. Next thing he will be saying is that the police will be fitted with bionic legs so that they can run after you or have helmet cams on the Lollypop ladies to watch you.
It is Zealots like him that are in the Taliban and the like. Same personality and charicteristics, just one is a religious fanatic and the other kills people.

Exactly what I was thinking!

We had no problems getting them out of these ones:

They were like little bullets with two prongs at the end to hold them in the white rubber. Stab a knife in there and they came out no worries Laughing This was 10 years ago though, so maybe they've changed.

Yeah, figured it'd be a nice bit of road furniture to go along with my 30mph clock, but it proved to be a worthy adversary for my inebriated self.

thing is a Gatso is pretty high up you need something to stand on to spray its camera if you are so inclined, all it'd take to nullify this would be some muddy rain and a dry spell , hell even with dry spells you get a ton of dust and dirt over the road,

seems highly vulnerable too so a can of paint.
