There's a few near Penrith at a place called Pooley Bridge that are popular. I've never stayed on them though.

Good camp site. Opposite CastleRigg Hall which is slightly more expensive I think.

There are a few down in Borrowdale that are really nice and very secluded. Not even a mobile phone signal down there. There is one I have used a few times just by the Langstrath country inn in Stonethwaite that I believe has been taken over by the Nazi Trust of late so its getting new toilets and signs that say don't drink the water (never did me any harm). Gets full of midges when its warm But it's right next to the river in the centre of the valleys. It's very picturesque.

Scotgate campsite is handy for its location. Just off the A66 in Braithwaite, right next to Keswick. It's right between Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water. The Coledale hotel just up from the campsite serves excellent food and they stop serving at the bar when your ready to leave Thumbs Up. The campsite itself is a bit hit and miss though. Its a bit expensive and when its warm the owner will just keep taking money and chucking people on the field even if it's packed.

Wasdale head has a great campsite (or two I believe). There is one just outside the pub. Serves a great pint, they have their own brewery. Good walk over to langdale (about 9k?) where there is another decent campsite if you fancy backpacking it.

Hope thats helpful. I know I go on a bit

Very Happy

Another good one is fisher ground campsite.

This campsite has beautiful views, a pub not too far away, allows campfires Thumbs Up , and you go over the hardknott pass to get to it Wink [/url]
