Hehe I didn't think of that. Thumbs Up

Dare I ask why you need so many servers? I mean two frontend web servers and a seperate DB server, that suggests you're hosting quite a bit. Surely you'd need some kind of leased line setup to avoid connectivity being a bottleneck?

most of it is dev and testing work.. once I've built the system, tested it, and proved it's all working I'll start trying to market it.. once I start getting some traffic and business, I'll migrate to a proper data-center. No point in paying for a leased line or hosting costs until I need it.

I've been thinking of doing one of those, and I wondered if I was becoming too geekish.

But I see that perhaps it is not a bad thing.

Its very interesting, if a tad complicated for my current level of knowledge, LOL.

Ah right. I'd just assumed the two 'web' servers that they'd be used externally and obviously a standard line'd struggle to cope with two servers worth of content.

hellkat, I reckon if you've not only got that amount of kit but you decide to write it all up you've probably reached the peak of geekyness. Wink I do envy feef having so many toys to play with though...

the two web servers are/will be visible externally, as part of the dev/testing work.

The bit that's missing is some sort of load balancer for the front end, and a second database to work in circular replication. If I can run both the web front end and the databases off the same load balancer, then I have an active-active redundant system.

but for what I need for now, and I suspect, early days of product marketing, I'll get by with the kit I have

You must be working on some pretty beefy projects for them to require multiple web servers even at the dev stage. Anything interesting?

doesn't 'require' multiple web servers, but I'm not going to build an environment to provide a service that will operate 24/7 with a single point of failure Very Happy

it's an SMS/MMS service i'm working on.. not found anything else in the market yet, so if I'm quick, I can corner it Very Happy

Nah, I've not.

I'm only at the stage of figuring out how to use my wireless router to link up my new PC with either my laptop or my old PC so that my boyfriend can watch Smackdown! without having to come on the new computer and disturb me/deprive me of my personal webtime.
