I like to cook. Every other day I put me pinny on and mince into the kitchen where I toss up something exotic before starting the meal.

So, my budding chefy friends, I have a question for ye:
How on earth do you get the smell of garlic off your fingers?

Replace with the smell of bleach? least if you smoke it will get the nicotine stains of to. Or even better wear latex gloves when touching garlic.

It goes away naturally after a day or so. You're better off not putting loads of chemicals on your skin.

If you do it often enough you stop smelling it, it's just other people that have to suffer Laughing

I have yellow gloves for cutting garlic and chillies because I kept rubbing my eyes after cutting chillies and then getting burny burny eyes. Crying or Very sad

I agree! Damn Onions! He's taken 4 Warwickshire wickets so far this innings!

Oh... wait...

Um...

I hear that if you rub a little vegetable oil into your fingers before you chop them up and then wash it off straight afterwards that can help. It's not one I can vouch for personally though as I don't mind the smell Smile

Just wash your hands straight away after handling the garlic (or onions). It doesn't get rid of the smell completely but it helps a lot. Lemon helps a little too - either lemon washing up liquid or a bit of lemon juice rubbed into your hand and rinsed off - I think it just covers up the smell till it goes of its own accord... Thumbs Up

Did you know that if you rubbed a cut onion on the bottom of your feet, you'll taste onions in your mouth an hour later?

Little known fact, the active ingredient in the Allium family that causes the pungent scent in most of them can be stripped with snot.

The scent inhibitors produced in reaction by the mucous membranes in the nasal passage isolate and neutralise the smell. Hence sticking your fingers up your nose then rubbing the snot in and washing it off will remove the scent. In a similar vein, rinsing your nose with beer (or any other mild alchohol) will give temporary relief from Hayfever, it cleanses and then numbs the area where the allergic reaction takes place.

I've heard that you should wash your fingers with cold water not hot to start with as it softens the skin and the smell can embed itself.

But thats probably as much bollocks as any other theory.

Honestly, I was utterly skeptical and as a joke purchased a steel egg-soap for Jon for Christmas.

I was really surprised when it did actually work after cooking a curry from scratch a couple of days after Christmas for Jon's sister and brother in law. The smell of the garlic, onion and spices we had chopped and crushed disappeared using the steel soap.
