so i go to uni this year, and im wondering if (after rebuild) commuting from staffordshire uni at the stafford campus to wolverhampton is too far for my rxs 100. i imagine it wil be mostly 50mph roads, which is 6500 rpm and feels like its going to take off lol. ive had alot of trouble with the bike ever since ive had it (third engine now) and im wondering if making this journey a few times a week would kill it off again

Hi

Stafford to Wolvo is the A449 which is mainly a 60 limit. From Stafford a 30 limit to Moss pit, 40 to just the other side of the M6, then 60 to Penkridge, 40 through Penkridge, then 60 to just before Gailey Island, then 70 from there until just before the M54 where it turns to a 40 for Wolvo.

Doable, but not fun. Tends to be talivans on the A449 (hence why these days I use the back lanes). I would doubt it would kill the engine off, but ou will crank up the miles pretty quickly.

All the best

Keith

well i say wolverhampton, its willenhall right on the border, the way i was going to go was via cannock, that might be where you just said, but im not very good with road names Crying or Very sad

imnot really comfortably on the bike past 55 ish i know its a two stroke but it feels like im over revving it leaving it at 7000 rpm all the time

Hi

RXS100 should do over 70 true top speed. And being a 2 stroke there are less moving parts to care about being over revved.

A34 takes you from Stafford to Cannock easily, but the bit from there down is not really a pleasant jouney.

All the best

Keith

whats the limit from stafford to cannock then?

im fine as soon as im in cannock, used to ride there regular before the bottom end went just used to go via great wyrley 50mph max roads then through bloxwich

with any luck the engine may survive then, it will be a full rebuild job anyway the barrel has been scored to hell for the last few thousand miles by the looks of it

Hi

Not sure. Think it is a 60 limit, although there is a long slow bit into Cannock.

Barrel is the easy bit to do. Bottom end is more difficult.

All the best

Keith

From Stafford go A449. The journey from Cannock to Wolves is horrible. Too many speed cameras and too many lorries. At least the '449 is dual carriageway most of the way.

You'll be fine on the RXS Thumbs Up

If you go from Cannock to Stafford, you're looking at the A34 through Huntington which is slow and full of speed cameras (30mph) but after that it's a straight run along NSL road through the Chase to the Police Headquarters, then right along Baswich Lane past the crematorium and arrive at the Staffordshire Uni campus.

I travel in the opposite direction from the PoliceHQ to Cannock and on a bike it takes me 12-15 mins. From Cannock to the Uni I'd say about 20 mins on a bike.

If you DO decide to come along the A449, turn right at Penkridge and follow the lanes through Acton Trussell - it brings you out on the A34 just shy of the PoliceHQ and you're almost there.

If you go up the A34 be careful at Brocton (40MPH) as there is a scamera just before the Penkridge crossroads. Then after Brocton its NSL until just before the Pottle Pool island where its 40MPH for abt half a mile then drops to 30MPH with as said loads of scameras.

I used to live next door to the Police HQ and work in Wolvo', I used a GP100 for a couple of years to get there with no problems. Thumbs Up

More to the point why the hell would you commute to uni whilst staying at home Shocked

-You will realise ALL your friends back home are tossers
-Any gf's you are with will get dumped or resented for holding you back
-Its cheap as shit to stay at halls.

A mate of mine commutes back and forth cos he wanted to stay with his gf back home Rolling Eyes
Hes just ended up cheating on her loads, hasnt made any close mates cos hes never there, and hasnt grown up at all.

If i were you id escape as far away as humanly possible.

Im over 200 miles away from my hometown. Best thing i could ever do. Gives you a chance to be an island.

Just think about why you want to commute from home to a local uni.
Usually people say bf or gf/lack or money/dont want to lose or make new friends

All very weak reasons, and usually the people who stay at home tend to drop out quite quickly.

You may think the degree is the important bit, but its REALLY not. Infact 99% of the time i think the degree is a pile of arse.

Indeed, although technically that is the wrong direction as she's going from Wolverhampton to Stafford (unless you were talking about the journey home Wink ).

So you're not actually commuting, just visiting every other week or whatever. It should be fine, I do Staffordshire to Somerset and vice versa pretty much every other week.

Good man, although as said commuting infers back and forth each day for lectures.
But the basic way it works is you get to uni and go... oooh shit loads of totty... and they all stay a minutes walk from me... hmmm.
And the gf at home line spurs the women on more.
Just do yourself a favour and dont bring her to see the uni until weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell into term.

Nothing alienates people quicker then a gf hanging off the arm in freshers week. Well that or flying the BNP flag lol.

But i know of about 2 couples out of 30 odd that stayed together when one naffed off to uni. That is, 2 couples where the partner hasnt cheated or quit.

You will also find once you're there you'll not be heading back much (unless you particularly want washing done, although i actually prefer the onsite launderettes myself).

And i know my mate that lives in hertfordshire with me and stays with his grandad in london to go to uni in greenwich (so he can nip back to see his gf and get his cheeks wiped by his mum) has really not made any friends, doesnt seem to be enjoying it, and certainly hasnt changed.

Dont forget you've no doubt got several choices, you can always pretend you didnt get into the close one Wink
Makes life much easier when you arent expected home in term time for every birthday, anniversary etc.

Haha, id nip that in the bud too. Two reasons;
1) You'll not get to pull Laughing
2) You'll be looking after her all night and not meet people in general

OR

With your haircut you can always embrace the uni gay scene and pretend you want to 'explore your sexuality' Wink

But in all seriousness i VERY nearly didnt go to uni/went to a nearer uni after i got back with an ex id 'missed'.

Didnt do shit about it, got back at crimbo, shagged her, poof feelings gone Thumbs Up

Just make sure, cos plenty of people go to uni as kids, grow up and apart but stick together out of guilt/routine more then anything, and split as soon as they leave. Then go... 'well that was an exciting 3 years Crying or Very sad'
