well today i went to my mechanics asked him to change my brake pads blah blah. i notice he has a 4 vfr get talking about it turns out hes selling it £400 (missing top half of front faring/ mirrors) 12months mot, D reg, looks pretty good for its age i suppose (well everything but the front fairing).

but its done 63000 miles or somewhere close so is that to many mile for a vfr to do ?

he says there are no mechanical problems with it, but anyone trying it sell a bike would say that, doesn't come with a guarantee as it isnt a big bike shop.

haven't looked at it proper yet but please tell me as much info about the bike as possible e.g. things to look for,

he started it up and it purrrs

Razz

Reg-Recs. That's about it i think. As long as it's been maintained well and had decent oil it should keep going....

£400 isn't that amazing for an early VFR with bits missing. These are a bit heavier/clunkier than the later NC30.

If it's sold to you by a shop as a road bike, then it has to be fit for the purpose sold. However they would probably mark it as sold for spares/repair or similar.

Well i went for a proper look today at the bike: not as good as i though it was

the things i noticed: rust covered rear shock, down pipes rusted and welded, the front disk had slight rust on it, screws and bolts are rusted, paint work chipped (not really arsed about that one) the mileage is 63259 speedo was also convered, the indicators on the dash didn't work, fairing was broke apparently a ladder falling on it or something, it wouldn't start at first, then it did start there was some white smoke ( and i don't think it would idle straight away as he kept revving it and front forks where clicking when i pushed down on them hard (what does that mean)

there no test ride because of no insurance (i though a person with fully comp over 25 had third party on other peoples bikes ) Confused however he did offer to take me out on it if i was that bothered

when i asked him about a number of the items from the list above he replied with its fine it wouldn't have passed its mot other wise and its only 400 quid.
As i have very little mechanical knowledge and he has a lot i suppose i will have to trust him, but a apart of me thinks hes just saying his to sell a bike

pics to follow

opinion's please !

Mate, if you're not convinced the bike is the right one for you and you're happy with its condition and history, then walk away. It almost sounds like you know it ain't right, but want someone else to say it for you Smile

It's not a bad price, but for a bike that, by the sounds of it, has had a hard life.

If you're mechanically minded it might be a sound buy as you can fix it up and maintain it yourself easily; if you just want sometthing you can ride and not worry about, this might not be the one.

It's not a great deal, they aren't worth much in good condition.
