HGV drivers

Has anyone noticed how courteous these usually are to bikers?

On a few recent ride outs ive not come across one that hasn't moved for me. When filtering down the main road going from the uni in Stafford to the town centre, two separate ones (a fair distance from each other) checked incoming traffic and waved me past them when they saw me.

The same on the M6 the other night. There was a big smash on the J4 sliproad causing huge tail backs. I got through almost all of it via filtering thanks to the kindness of the HGV's making way for me (traffic was all stationary).
I always acknowledge them if they help / or make eye contact with them.

Complete opposite round here I'm afraid. All the ones I've seen have blocked me off when filtering. C*nts!

yes, i've found that. they always move over for me. not once has one refused or failed to move over. i always lift my left hand off the bar to acknowledge them.

they are really considerate. nice chaps me thinks.

have you noticed they see you coming a mile off as well ?

if i'm just plodding along in the outside lane or the left hand lane and a truck comes up behind me or wants to overtake, i'll pull in or let them pull out to overtake.

maybe it's a karma thing. what goes around comes around. Thumbs Up

A lot of bikers I know drive trucks. I think a lot of truckers own bikes or come from families where bikes were important.

I've had a couple of bad experiences but most of the time with them they've been mint with me.

I go to work along a pretty industrial route and sometimes when I'm coming out of the petty station onto the busy road the HGV will stop as if it was turning, flash me out and then carry straight on as normal :>

Never Had a problem with them, they all seem decent and give a little wave when you go past.

Whereas Private Hire Taxis, they are the nobs of the road, they all drive like tards.

being a hgv driver myself i dont see eny harm in moving over as long as it is safe to do so
we all know 9 out of ten cagers wont move out of the way for a 44 tonner let alone a bike

They often give you the big flash and thumbs-down when there is a speed trap up ahead too. I try to return the favour whenever possible.

I dont really like trucks Thumbs Down

Although thats not to say there bad drivers.

When i was 17 i used to ride an RXS100. One damp wet day i was riding down a NSL road, at reduced speed, when a bloody huge tanker pulled out on me. Just straight across the road.

Now this is gonna sound BS but i actually hit his truck wheel, well slid into it, and was pushed up the kerb of the road onto the verge. God only knows why i wasn't pulled underneath. He never even noticed that i'd hit the side of him and drove off. (That maybe due to the size of the truck v's the size of rxs100)

So im very cautious of big trucks. I do however understand there problem with seeing us so tend to keep well back from them.

Thats because we are professional drivers and drive using our mirrors all the time. Not like other motorists !

Truck drivers are always damn good to me too. They never fail to pull over for me to filter. Weirdly recently I've also found that loads of taxi drivers let me filter past as well.

Truckers are ok in my book too. Except some of the 7.5 tonne drivers who are cock.
Bl**dy private Taxis are the bad end of a poor joke. The driving standards are so poor I actually asked one to stop and got out. Only use Black cabs if I have to use a Taxi as most are ok, some are bad too, but most ok.

Yeah I've always found them to be very nice.
Filtering down traffic on the M6, a mate in front of me - he gets through a gap between a lorry and an impreza, the impreza wasn't happy so moved to block the gap. The lorry driver obviously was aware that I was there, and moved over to let me through. Thumbs Up

Yeah I've normally found them to be pretty good drivers as well. Prob because they're tought to constantly check they're mirrors when learning. Most car drivers only realise you're there when you've gone past them.
