Well, since nobody I know either wants to move out, or can't or whatever I need to find a new housemate!

I didn't really want to get a stranger in but it's either this or move to a small crappy flat alone or go back to my Mum's, both options I'd rather avoid. So what should I do from here, obviously I need to advertise a room for rent but can anyone reccomend any particular sites/places? What questions would you be asking a potential housemate, I don't want to end up constantly locking myself in my room because my housemate is a dick/bitch etc

Obviously I will take a deposit so they aren't likely to just disappear one day!

Does anyone have any experiences to share or anything, I really don't want to move a stranger who turns out to be a twat in. Sad

spareroom.co.uk or easyroommate.co.uk

Just invite them round, show them around, you can (I can) usually tell within a couple of minutes whether I'll like them or not.

Maybe ask them out for a pint, etc?

Make sure they're into roughly the same sort of stuff as you or they will annoy the fuck out of you (Wetsuits in the bath at my place Middle Finger )

You could set up a little test for them:

Show me how to wash a plate/glass/mug
If they rinse the plate under the tap without using washing up liquid or a sponge, lose them.

Where do your clothes belong?
In the wardrobe or drawers are ideal answers.
On the floor, on top of the washing machine, hanging to dry in the bathroom are bad.

Which food stuff would you say constitutes the main part of your diet?
a) beer
b) meat
c) tomato ketchup
d) takeaway pizza
e) vegetables

Ideally you want answer a Wink

When taking a shower do you:
a) jump straight out and drip on the floor
b) 'squeegy' down to avoid unecessary drips
c) Walk around naked trying to find a towel
d) what's a shower?

You get the idea Smile

Ask for 1 months rent deposit and 1 months rent paid up front. I forked out over £1000 this way on my room when I moved to Reading. I would also recommend saying the sort of person you are after. Don't be too specific otherwise you'll sound like a loser. Tell them you have a cat and you're male and living alone...no wait, don't. They will assume you're a poof.

Mr. Green

But seriously...www.gumtree.com is ace. Thumbs Up And very popular too. Owned by eBay.

But that's part of the joys of flatting, it will give you a wealth of stories to dine out on, in later life.

We've all got them !

I read that and suddenly thought you were going to do a full test...

Show me how to wash a plate/glass/mug.

Tell me how you would operate the kettle in this kitchen.

Take them for a walk through the house, ask them to walk around the sofa, turn around the table and get them to turn the TV on. Make sure they can open doors, close doors and stop correctly at locked doors.

At the end of the walk, ask them a question about beer and balance.
