I'm 5'4" with short legs and my first bike was the perfect height for me - Kawasaki GPZ 500S. I could flat foot it. Thumbs Up I was also quite happy on a CB500 and an ER5. My SV is taller, but I tried some of the curvey SV's and they are quite a bit lower than the pointys so maybe one of those? Get her to go to a dealer and sit on a few bikes, it is the only way.

Any 400cc cruiser? , Babyyam had a Kwak 400 eliminator or something, shaft drive something or other its fairly low, its more about inner leg really,

OR just do what alot of Southern folks did and change the dog bones in the suspension , which lowered it and altered the handling quite a bit.

Mate of mine is 5ft dead, she rides a ZZR600 with the saddle and sidepanels removed. She doesn't hang about either!

You could also investigate the possiblility of getting the seat cut down and sculpted. I've had that done with the TRX and I'm comfy tiptoe on it...I'm 5'3" (ish) with very short legs BTW....!

SV650s are huuuge things in terms of leg length! Shocked I have a mate who has a lowered one and even on that when I sat on it both my feet were swinging in the breeze. Crying or Very sad

What sort of bikes does your girlfriend like?

The lowest sportsbike I have found is probably the VFR400 (NC30), and I believe CBR400s are quite low too. Avoid the ZXR, it's bloody enormous!

Cruisers are good but there are 2 problems to be aware of with them, some have the "feet foorward" controls so far forward that although you can reach the ground you can't reach the bloody gear and brake pedals Mad and some of them have really w-i-d-e seats that can make a big difference if you only have short legs. Best ones IMO are the Kawasaki Eliminators and LTDs or the Yam Virago, Suzuki LS650 or Intruder and Honda Steed or the smaller Shadows.

There are a few naked-style bikes around that she should be OK on. I am currenly on a 400 Zephyr (which is the same size as the 550) and I manage OK riding (although I have had a couple of inches cut out of the seat) although I have to be a bit careful getting on and off, and I really struggle to get enough purchase to paddle it backwards, I have to get off and push. Embarassed I was also OK on a 400 Bandit (although I would need a stepladder for the 600 Sad ) and I found an XJR400 that was OK too. Oh and I got on a 650 Bros just about.

Look for import 400s from Japan as they tend to be an inch or so lower than standard UK ones.

Most bikes can be lowered by way of cutting the seat, dropping the shocks and forks, putting tyres on that are a size lower profile but the problem with most of those things is that you can't really try the bike out for size properly before you buy it and some lowering can affect your handling quite severely.

Whatever she ends up getting if she is not 100% confident on it I would recommend fitting engine bars or crash mushrooms so that if/when it does go over (usually from a standstill, usually in front of LOTS of people lol) there will be minimal damage. Thumbs Up

PS the built up boots are IIRC Daytona Ladystars, and I was told by a nice man at the NEC last year that Triumph are going to be doing some too although I've not seen them yet.

Hi

CBR400 is the lowest sports bike. Lower than the VFR. Finding a nice one is getting difficult though.

GPZ500 is very low and they are easy to find. Loads around.

ZZR600 is pretty low, and also has a thick seat so you can chop some out fairly easily.

However, comes down to what kind of bike she wants.

All the best

Keith

I agree. For us shorties, the SV is just too high!

Crikey. Fair enough - granted I'm Too Tall, so my mate's SV was a veeery long way down.

Any of the stuff on this list still relevant? https://www.nebcom.com/noemi/moto/sbl.sbl.html

I ride an Sv650 K3 pointy...and I'm 5ft 7", its just about comfortable height wise for me. I should imagine anyone much shorter than me might struggle, unless they get a lower seat on.

Yes I have a lower seat on my K5 pointy - and I need it at 5'4" Confused - but the curveys are considerably lower than the pointys in my experience.
