Battery not charging?...

What would stop the battery on my NSR charging? could it be a break in the loom or the alternator or???

I had my old battery in, and it wouldnt charge up meaning no headlights or nothing, but if you ran it with the headlights off it would charge a little.

I brought a new battery today and its done exactly the same, came to go home after 3 hour of riding with lights on, and then all went dim slowly,looked at my lights and they were barely lit

this is the last time this NSR is gonna fuck me over , ill get this fixed then its going i swear.

reg/rec or alternator by the sound of it.

Check over the wiring for a break or a fault first.

Yea, check the wiring.

My CBR wasn't charging the battery with the lights on and I thought the worst and stripped the bike down ready to change the alternator.

However, after cleaning up the contacts etc it seems to be just fine now. So get out your little files and clean them up. Hopefully it will work then!

I put the old battery back in and its the same, i didnt want to risk damaging the new one.

Basically the only thing odd i noticed is when the engine is running with the lights om, if i look at the lights and rev the engine the brightest of the lights doesnt gradually increase it flcikers and goes bright then dim?

Ill put another loom in it tommorow, its for sale on ebay.

Hi

Looms can go wrong, but not that often. Put it this way it would be one of the last things I would change and is one of the easiest things to check with a mutlimeter. It should be fairly easy to trace the wires from the alternator up to the regulator / rectifier unit and then onto the battery.

That the lights get brighter for a short while tends to suggest that the alternator and regulator / rectifier are trying to do their jobs. It wouldn't surprise me if the problem is a loose or dirty connection.
