On my way back from dropping my female friend off home, i got to thinking.

In my lifetime (glorious (almost) 18 years of existence)) bikes have come along in leaps and bounds both in style and engineering. We now have litre sports bikes that out of the crate can hit over 180MPH over twice the legal limit in this country. We have people riding them that cant get even close to the limits of the tyres/chassis.

We have 600's with huge amounts of power and i think MotoGP shows just how fast something smaller than a litre bike can be.

When is this going to end? Will it? The way i see it, were going to keep going till the Ducati Desmo looks like just another race rep, or even further.

Maybe this nanny state we live in will take over us all and who know's in another 18 years we could all be sitting reminiscing of when we used to be able to go fast and cursing the new-fangled speed restricting devices.

It just amazes me how far we've come and if we keep going at this rate, who knows. Or will it all come to an abrupt end from a piece of paper signed by the health and safety department?

Thoughts? Thinking

Tbh i dont think they will be able to squeeze much more out of the engines hp wise.. although im almost certainly wrong.

And in 10 years time we will have Star Trek type laser beams controlled by orange oompa loompa men that will transport us, you know.

Will be totally rad. Little people. Very Happy

In 30 years time we will have our speed restricted by satellite systems above us monitoring our ever movement

Hi

Personally don't think bikes have come that far in the last 18 years. 600s capable of double the NSL? Yep, had them then. Alloy frames. Yep. Fuel injection. Yep.

What has happened is existing things have got developed more. And some of that is probably backwards. Suspect that most people would be quicker on bikes where there was more low down power, even at the expense of top end power.

Doubt it will take anything like as long as another 18 years for us to be tracked by satellite.

All the best

Keith

I have said before that I would sacrifice top end power to a max of 120 to have more fuel economy (2-300miles to a tank) and better grunt for over taking though to much in the bottom end can be a pain in slow stop start traffic where it can be a bit jumpy-jerky as you turn the throttle off and on.You have hit the nail on the head in my thinking bikes today are more capable than the riders some by far to develop road bikes for the road and not for both track and road, but thats is my thinking not everyone would agree. But what do most of us bikers use the bike for anyways! travelling to work and the saturday-sunday blast mixed with motorway miles so no need for track orientated bikes for the road in these guises.
