Got a letter from Streetbike (former honda dealer)as of the end of the month they cease to be honda dealers. They say that honda wish to go down the BMW route and have sole dealerships so they would have to stop being Suzuki and Yamaha dealers.

Thumbs Down

It is a bit gay and I cant really see why they're doing it. Surely it just means that instead of lots of dealerships selling a variety of brands that people can browse through there'll just be a few, specialised dealers. Its hardly going to be more convinient for people getting there so I can see them losing a few customers.

The sales manager there said something about it 2yrs ago when I was looking for work, said that Honda wanted them to either drop the other franchises or lose Honda, they were contemplating opening their other premises as a seperate Honda showroom, guess they decided not to.

Probably very correct. They are likely to loose customers. But this way Honda can have far more control over the dealers.

All the best

It was always inevitable that something was going to happen at Streetbike as this Honda sole dealership thing has been going on for a while. It happened to Sutton Motorcycles too, in Tamworth they used to sell Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki but now have made the dealership into Honda only. They have retained the a Suzuki franchise but it is on their other site in Sutton Coldfield. From a customers point of view it has took the convenience out of it all, because you have to travel to loads of different dealerships if you want to view the current range of new bike on sale.

In my opinion (from the customers point of view) it is a backwards step. Honda obviously have their own reasoning behind it all, but they have lost out in the West Midlands as Streetbike have chosen to retain the Suzuki and Yamaha franchises and kick Honda into touch. Wink

maybe why george white swindon have made purpose built premises for their branded bikes! but not everyone would be able to do this so yes it would be inconvenient to the customer but honda say customers have expressed the view that is it better to have a sole dealership.I would rather have 4 or more manufacturers under one roof than ride 40miles down the road to see another branded bike to compare.

A friend who works in a dealership was telling me that even in a multi-brand franchise Honda disliked having other makes displayed alongside their own, so they had to have their own building.

Dont really understand what the idea is behind this, unless they think there is some disadvantage in having the new R1, GSXR and Blade etc. next to each other. Personally, i think the customer is just going to buy the one they really want anyway.

TWO years ago had an article about this , its about trying to corner the market, and squeezing out smaller brands
like triumph in that if you go to a Honda show room you see Hondas and compare Hondas , and don't directly get to
compare with other brands, thus limiting your choice to THIER brand of machine, and thus hopefully making you
buy their machine , and dealers have a line drawn in the sand sell only mine or none at all , losing the franchise
= probably more expensive bike stock etc.

What really happens is somebody like me decides they want a bike say in Bolton, ESB (boo) stock virtually all
Suzi's (they do sell pre-reg Hondas like CGs as well) , Doug hacking sells Kwak, Winonda South Mancs
Sells Honda, and nobody seems to sell Yam.

I'm sure this has been going on for ages, the george white in swindon used to have its honda dealer a couple of hundred meters away from the suzuki/yamaha/kawasaki bit.

The new one is opposite the other, but they are completely separate buildings, it does look cool however, and I did notice a few used hondas in the main building.
