My latest purchase, a Arai Astro R, keeps fogging up when riding, meaning I have to keep it open a touch.

I was going to buy a Foggy mask thingy, but noticed that Arai sell "Racing breath deflectors", my question is has anyone got one and do they work? Or am I better going for the Foggy mask?
They're both about the same price, but I'd imagine the Arai one would fit better, but does it work as well?

Astro R should come with a little breath deflector.

Have you tried using any anti-fog techniques? The simplest which I always use is to take the visor off, place a small drop of washing up liquid onto a soft cloth and rub it onto the inside of the visor. Keep rubbing until all streaking disappears and in effect you can't tell the soap was even there in the first place. Click visor back in place and use the helmet. You will find the effects will last for about 2-3 weeks then simply reapply.

Or you could use scottoiler FS365.

I've got an Astro-R and it came with a pin-lock visor insert which acts like double glazing, and stops the misting problem.

Most Arai visors now come with the pins already installed, and if you haven't got an insert, then I think they're about £15.

It's similar to a Fog City insert, but you can take it out as it isn't stuck to the visor.

ha ha ha.... actually you could but it won't work half as well as until the stuff contacts salt, it will readily dissolve in water - i'e although it's an oil it's not a hydrocarbon and so is not inherently hydrophobic. Fairly liquid is only marginally soluble as it's a lipid structure. The hydrocarbon 'tail' of the lipid will not dissolve in water at all and so repels water from forming up on the surface of the visor.

Yeah, it does but it's next to useless. I was thinking about one of these

As far as pinlocks go, do you have to drill holes in your visor? Shocked

Yes - although most new Arai visors come with the pins already fitted.

The insert comes with a drilling template, and I know some dealers will do it for you on request.

Yes, but most new visors come with the pins fitted. If not, then the pinlock kits come with a drilling template and even the drill bit - so it's hard to go wrong!
My Arai came with a pinlock insert too, and it's absolutely brilliant Very Happy
