I remember someone recently posting pictures of their new pride and joy (cant remember what bike it was now)
but I remember a comment someone made that was something like "that things been thrashed, just look at the downpipes"

are downpipes a good thing to check out when buying a bike? Do they really suggest anything?

I ask because I'm hoping to get myself an SV650 in the next couple of months so I need to know what to look out for
cheers

They were most likely referring to the state of it corrosion wise.

It may have been that thread on the ridiculously clean CBR 600..?

Anyway, a corroded downpipe doesn't really suggest anything, other than not keeping on top of the cleaning. They're very exposed on SV650s aswell, so you're unlikely to find one with a mint downpipe.

They corrode a lot worse if ridden through winter, so that's the only thing it'll really indicate.

EDIT: Sometimes they'll go blue if they've got really hot. But again, doesn't really show anything amazing, it's more dependant on the material they're made from.

yeah I think it was that clean CBR

they way he typed it made it sound like that the downpipes were in that condition due to it being thrashed. yeah I've yet to see an SV within my price range with sparkling downpipes, but then thats to be expected. booking my test today hopefully Thumbs Up

It was on a GSXR I think and the header pipes had turned blue due to the heat. Nothing to worry about and perfectly normal.

Yea was the header pipes, pretty normal for the headers to blue - the comment was made as they were blue all the way down to the link pipe.
