Hi all

Just read something surprising in a magazine. It implies that I don't need to sit my theory test if I already have a car driving license, which I do. Is this the case?

I also asked this question as i was told this, my cbt instructor said you have to do your theory whatever license you have, so yes you have to do your theory test

Ya bit silly that I had been driving for 13 years and then had to do theory test before I did my DAS.

Of course you have to sit a theory test even if you already drive. Its another way of keeping morons away from bikes, how many drivers who passed their test years ago know how much the highway code has changed? Not many i doubt, and having to sit another or their first theory test can only help them be safer imo.
Its not as if the theory test is hard exactly. Laughing

Up to either 1999 or 2000, you didn't have to do the theory test.

After that you do now.

Very true that my friend got his bike license without doing the theory because he had a car license. Not the case nowadays.

What a load of tosh....
In that case then everyone should resit the test every few years.....

Driving/riding experience is far more valuable than sitting some dumb ass test....

The theory of the road is the same whether in a car or on a bike.

You know what, that wouldnt be a bad idea. It *might* raise the standard of driving in this country.

i think its all happening in oct 2008..50 question theory and

at least two manoeuvres being carried out at slow speed, including a slalom
at least two manoeuvres being carried out at higher speed, of which one manoeuvre should be in second or third gear, at a speed of at least 30 km/h (18.6 mph) and one manoeuvre avoiding an obstacle at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (31.1 mph)
at least two braking exercises, including an emergency brake at a minimum speed of 50 km/h (31.1 mph)
...sounds fun Wink ..easy to say when youve passed Thumbs Up

Apart from when it comes to issues specific to two wheels

Oh, and sagalout, in 2004 there was a revision to the speed limits effecting some vechicles driven on a B class licence... A relatively major thing I think you will agree Smile

The theory tests are slightly different for car and bike, the hazard perception is the same though, but you still have to do it twice. Thumbs Up

I'd been driving since '89, so had to go right back to basics in 2005 and take a full theory / hazard perception before my DAS.
...and to be honest I'm glad I did, cos it refreshed certain points that had probably lapsed over the years.
