Have my DAS scheduled this sun/mon/tue and was hoping for good weather, or at least not much rain, no such luck! Emergency stop should be interesting...

General consesus for wet weather emergency stop is not to use the rear brake, just pretend that you are. And don't go mad on the front brake, don't want that one to lock either. Wink

The thing about the emergency stop in the test is that it's not really that much of an emergency stop. More like a bit of braking. Once you've been riding for a while you'll find yourself braking harder than that as a matetr of course. Just stop quickly and don't lock your wheels.

I'd agree with Joe on this one. For test purposes it would be more accurate to refer to it as heavy, controlled braking.
As long as you don't just slowly coast to a halt or lock either wheel you'll be OK.

EDIT : just for the record I did my half of my CBT, most of my DAS and my test during rain soaked conditions. Just try to be smooth but purposeful, if that makes any sense Rolling Eyes

I did mine in the baking heat two years ago. Following a cooking accident I ended up with burns on my arm which blistered horribly in the heat and I've still got the scars on my hand and arm. 6 hours in bike gear meant I was dripping with sweat and it didn't help with healing.

Id've preffered wind and rain any day.. Smile

I did my DAS in Winter and had the lovley experience of riding back to the training centre in a Blizzard after my 1st test fail.

To be honest, I loved the experience of it. My gear which all came from Ebay, suprised me in how warm it was.

Unfortunatley, i've yet to see what they do in a rainstorm.

Failed... Weather was terrible throughout training, not too bad during test though. First time on a dual carriageway on a 500cc machine with strong crosswinds was interesting. Day 1/3 was getting used to machine control, nailed the emergency stop, hopeless on u-turns. Day 2/3, good machine control, emergency stop still good, nailed the u-turn, need better observation. Day 3, before the test, everything's going well, instructor had no more comments for improvement as we head to the test centre.

In the end, failed cause I didn't do enough mirror checks and lifesavers. Everything else went very smoothly, u-turn, emergency stop... Was riding back to the test centre thinking I had passed, really thought I did enough checks... gutted.

such a disappointment... rebooked the test in Chingford (first one was in Pinner). Would appreciate any tips for doing it there if you're familiar with that test centre.

I dont know if this is any help, When I was doing my training my instructer kept on about "think of the comfort of your pillion" Whats coming out of the blind spot of 2 parked cars? (could be a kid) double check life saver, Use your mirrors before any change in your riding even if your just slowing down by a couple of MPH, Be confidant even if your not and your full of nerves try and show your confidant. Make sure the tester knows your doing your observations, (not just a quick glance do a proper look.
When passing traffic or going around a round-a-bout stare at the cars waiting to pull out. (LET THEM KNOW YOUR THERE)
A funny ditto, on one of my training days I was at the tail end of 3 bikes, the instructer another trainee then me, We went round a round-a-bout, the trainer stared at a land-rover driver waiting to pull out, The 2an rider stared ant the land-rover driver, I stared at the land-rover driver and he gave me a dirty look and the bird, I wanted to smack him.
But think about it 3 riders giving him the stare?
Tony
