I've been enjoying your stories about disgusting things people, Mr James one was quite an image Shocked

Anyway, i was thinking last night, it doesn't have to be disgusting to be shocking....so what have you seen in public that has had you stunned/shocked?

I'll go first, although i couldn't think of anything that mad TBH.

I was walking through the Regent Arcade in Cheltenham, it was pretty busy, walking in my direction was a middle aged woman carrying shopping bags. Suddenly with no warning what so ever, she fell flat on her face, not because she tripped, something else.
I slowed to a snails pace and looked around for panic, not one person had done anything, so i decided to go over.
The feeling of not knowing what was going on, or what to do was horrible, i literally had no idea....

She was still face down, shopping everywhere, i looked around at people again and i think i said "Ummm"
Anyway, i checked she was still alive and then when i did, three more people came to help out.....man i was so thankful.
We sat her up against some seating area close by and someone else had called paramedics.
I had to leave because i was just going to get under their feet, i think she just fainted, but it was harsh seeing it happen.

Confused It Shocked me how people reacted i guess, well and the fact id witnessed a woman fall on her face without warning...

Before I grew hard and cynical and when I used to take the bus , I saw a granny (from inside a bus as it was turning into this street) get mugged ....exceptionally violently , the granny was in a pool of blood shaking like a leaf,

it was on the 98 bus route when it turns right into lower broughton.

taught me never to go down there sihnce this was in the middle of the day..

I remember I was at a park somewhere with my parents, must've been about 9 at the most and some guy was sitting on a bench feeding some pigeons. Nothing unusual about that until he started getting them to come closer and closer and was looking around a lot, then suddenly he leaned forward, grabbed one, snapped it's neck then just dropped it and walked off fast!

I still can't figure out why he did it but it was strange seeing something like that at a young age and not being able to figure out why he did it etc.

Was living in the Middle East, waiting on my school bus, saw an old man (arab) get hit by a trans am which seemed to be racing another car. The body ended up under the vehicle somehow Confused Which never stopped.

When the bus eventually arrived, after the police etc, and we drove right past the scene, we saw the police lifting up the mans headdress, the head was still in it Shocked as he had been decapitated.

The driver was caught within a few hours, he was a worker from the far east, the old man was a local. Funnily enough there was never any mention of any sort of trial Twisted Evil

I've been there Fella!

The first time I found someone hanging - about 5 years ago now - I went through exactly the same chain of thoughts as described above.

I wasn't actually working in that area, and had actually gone past the cell before I realised my subconscious had picked up on something, and I doubled back.

When I got to the cell, it looked like the woman was standing in the corner, and when I didn't get a response I opened the door to find her butt naked, frothing at the mouth and hanging from a ligature made from her forensic paper suit. I'd only been working in the court for 6 months, and had never experienced anything quite like it, so I just froze - unsure whether to go for help or jump straight in there. Obviously, my middle-class upbringing didn't help, as I wasn't keen on diving into a potentially unpleasant situation with a disturbed, sweaty, naked African lady.

Luckily the woman in charge of that area walked up and started screaming, and now that someone was handling the situation far worse than I was, I felt able to act, and barged into the cell. Luckily, the woman was small enough for me to be able to support her weight, while leaving an arm free to rip the ligature free. Once she got her breath back, she felt sufficiently recovered to start trying to rip my throat out with her teeth - another first for me!

Since then I've intervened in several dozen suicide and self-harm incidents, but I still remember the details of that one vividly.

And yes, before some wag asks, she was quite cute; and no, I didn't enjoy it because she stank to high Heaven!

I was on a school trip to Paris in 1974 age 14 and we were at the Monmartre, on the square in front of the church. It was a warm sunny day. I remember looking up and saw this guy sitting on the ledge of the parapet which people walked across and then he just launched himself off. I watched him fall the 200 feet or so and land with a sound, that has stayed in my memory ever since...a sort of CRACK! I stood in shock as the blood started to trickle from his lifeless body. A woman screamed and a gendarme ran up to the body and put his cape over it.

I've seen old people die on the street, one literally in my arms, which is pretty upsetting but nothing quite as shocking as watching a youngish guy jump to his death. Everytime i go back to that church I always remember that day.

Probably the man that rode past on a bicycle, pulled up ahead then proceeded to wank in front of me and two of my female friends.

Shocked

The most shocking thing I've witnessed was the old favourite of a plane crash at Biggin Hill. The pilot just dive bombed the ground and never made any atempt the pull back up. It smashed into the ground about 40 ft away from me. Everyone just went silent and didn't know what to do or say. Once the organisers had put the fires out they told everyone to go home and there was no way the show could continue. Always stuck with me.

The only thing that has shocked me was probably when I was 14, in the car with my parents and I saw an old man climb over the walkway above the busy dual carriageway and jump into oncoming traffic.

I feel more sorry for the person who was the first to hit him on the road. It should probably effect me more than it does as it is quite an odd occurance to actually see.

i will never forget the first person I knocked over on my bike ( well more she walked into the side of my bike and was pushed over) Her glasses ended up on my bikes handlebars. The police threatened me with all sorts and took a statement right after so I was deep in shock. Nothing happened to me as it was her fault and I had done everything to stop. The second person i ran over on my bike was a young lad ( about 14 yrs old ) as I approached a group of school kids one was pushed into my path by one of his mates, still remember the site of his ankle after my rear tyre had used it for grip to stop the bike. I had something like 40 whitenesses to say it wasn't my fault, which it wasn't, so nothing happened to me. Had to wash the blood off my bike afterwards.

I remember back to secondary school and our class having a tennis lesson in the park. This retarded man on the opposite road to the tennis court just suddenly starts having a wank over one of the birds in our class (she did have big tits though Wink ). He was grinning while he was doing it aswell. Just staring right at her.

Then after about 30 seconds, his carer comes and pulls his pants up and walks him away.

It is not something you really want to see in the bloody park.

I was driving through my home town once, and saw a seriously pissed guy leaning against the bus stop at a 45 degree angle, trousers and pants round his ankles, pissing onto his own feet, completely oblivious to the world around him.

It doesn't sound that bad, but it was 2pm on a Thursday afternoon with old ladies and people pushing prams going past. Shocked

This is something that always stays with me;

When I was 16 I worked with my uncle as a plumber we were on the M25 coming home from work driving up Reigate Hill. We were in a van towing a big pump which weighed about a ton. We were both sitting back chatting about shite, when I saw something strange come over the middle barrier. I calmly said to my uncle..'What is that?' ...It was a wheel off of a lorry, it was clearly coming straight towards us and was going to hit, my uncle froze and so did I. For some unknown reason a mercedes estate car was in the middle lane and sped up and cut us up in the left hand lane, he took the impact of the wheel, my uncle and I came to a hault quite quick and we got out to see if he was OK.

I ran accross to his car and clearly saw he was lifeless as the tyre hit the drivers side window, enevitably killing him quite quick.

Emergency services turned up but confirmed that it was fatal and there was nothing we could have done.

I always think back to that day as that man saved my life and my uncles by a strange snap dicision of his. He must have thought it was going to hit him in the middle lane.

I can't honestly remember having seen anything shocking.

Or maybe I've just blocked that stuff out.

Not really public but you see stabbings and beatings and self harm/attempted suicide so much in prison you kind of turn off the the nature of it.

The most shocked ive been was when an inmate jumped from the cells on the twos with his bedhseet tied to his neck and the bannister.

He sailed straight over and onto the floor as it was too long.

Not to big, probably a little bigger than a spitfire. unsure what plane it actually was as It was quite a few years ago now. Still made a lot of debris when it hit.

I was sitting on a wall in my town centre, when an oldish woman came to sit next to me, she was shaking nervously, naturally I thought it was weird and I didn't want to look as I would be rude. So I was deliberately looking the other way, then about 20 seconds after she first sat down, I heard a loud slap, turned around and there was the woman lying on the floor having an epileptic fit. That really shocked me.

Was enjoying a day in the sun on the beach when a load screech and a thud was heard from the road behind ,everyone on the beach jumped up and run to the road ,when we arrived some young lad 14/15 was laying in the road ,eyes wide open ,staring with his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water with blood oozing out !
The ambulance took about 30 mins to arrive and not one person who had run from the beach was comforting this lad they just stood staring at him !
My mates and I were only 14 or so at the time so did not know what to do !But I don't reckon he would have made it .

well the one that shocked me the most was being asked to swap seats with a woman of about 22-25 something like that on the bus. i was sitting on the back seats her on the seats just infront of me. i was a bit confused as to why but i did it anyway, she then proceded to pull down her trousers and her pants and take a piss right there, bus breaks, piss goes flying up the walkway of the bus. beautiful.
