Bike knocked over again

This is the second time this has happened. I keep my bike locked to a lamppost on the pavement outside my house. It's been knocked over for a second time. But this time was different. Someone has gone to the effort of first knocking it over, but then dragging it so it stretched across the entire pavement. I mean what the F*ck. Someone has it in for me. Kids with too much time on their hands wouldn't go to the effort of dragging the bike across the pavement, knock it over yes, but not drag it.

Has anyone got any idea's on what I can do. Problem with the location is that my house is on top of 2 dozen stairs and a wall, so I can't see the bike from any single room in the house, or even the front door. So a Camera is out of the question. What about alarms though?

Damages:2 Mirrors deliberately bent, headlamp casing cracked and bent inwards, front left indicator bent towards the rear of the bike, and i'm concerned about the front disk brake, if they dragged it the disk lock may have damaged the brake.

My house is on top of 2 dozen steep steps to my front door, theres no safe way of getting it up there. And I ain't got a driveway or garage.

You could try somehow getting the chain to a part of the bike so it can't be tipped? Not sure how, apart from a big chain round the body and joining to the other chain (or post).

Otherwise i'd guess an alarm would be the best bet

I guess I can get a second lightweight chain to go around the rack and go onto my gate, that would stop it from being tipped. But it's the front of the bike that still can be tipped if they try. Its the only unsupported part. I'll go for a alarm. I've once read on here that the odd BCF member has put Baby Monitors in the bodywork of their bikes, so they can hear people messing around with the bike from inside the house. I'll go for that aswell as an alarm. I'll try some stuff.

Not sure on that.

I'd put it in a better spot and consider an alarm as you say.

Get one of those disc locks with a built in alarm, then if some toe rag plays with the bike it should squeal and you can go out and give a bit of justice to them! Thumbs Up

An alarm will be the best bet I think. Aswell as a chain going around the framework to stop it from being toppled again. Problem I think i'll find though is my bike is located about 15M from my house. And considering I can easily sleep through the housephone ringing directly outside my bedroom door, I could easily sleep through the alarm. So do you think a "Baby monitor" beside my bed would wake me up if the alarm went off, I reacon it would work, one way to find out.

the alarm is less likely to wake you up, but it might wake other people up around you, and it will scare the shit outta the little cock stealing it/damaging it...

I guess your right. Thing that pisses me off, is their not trying to steal my bike, they are deliberately knocking it over to get me annoyed. Alarm would be the best bet, can you suggest a paticular kind or make?

Sell it or move would be my approach.

Alarm will wake every cunt up in the neighbourhood. And chances are they'll do it more often with an alarm on (if they're doing it just for fun). Cheetah alarm on eBay should do. They are cheap and probably perfect for what you want.

I'm going to move the location of the bike from now on. I'm going to move it to the oppersite side of the road, my mum will be able to keep an eye on it from her bedroom window, but the problem being, if those little assholes decide to drag the bike out like the did last time, they would be dragging the rear of the bike into the road.

do you have a garden?
if so, keep it in there no matter how hard it is to get in there.
its better to have hassle than pay for repairs.
also if you catch them at it you can do them for trespassing, vandalism and anyother household items 'they' may have broken Very Happy

I had a kid "tag" one of my bikes ( it came off easily) but I stopped the local bad boys and demanded they told me who the tagger was, they grassed. I then saw the kid responsible and explained that he was now responsible for making sure no mofo ever touched my bikes again.

Headlamp is totaly bust. Needs replacing. Everything else i've sorted myself now. Had to bend the left indicator back into position.

What i'm gonna do is get a heavy duty bike alarm and get a chain to wrap around the upper body of the bike, then at least they wont be able to topple my baby over again.

consider getting an alarm with remote PIR sensors, put one on your bike, or under a cover on your bike and it should go off/call your phone when it see's movement and they won't know Til you come running out wielding <insert weapon>......(B&Q did these not so long back, not this one, but similar) HTH Thumbs Up

If the chain is long enough pass it through the rear wheel and over the top of the seat of the bike, then chain it to the lamp post (maybe with another chain?) that should support it should they try to push it over again.

Gotta spend £37 on a new Headlamp Casing, £40 estimated on an alarm, and roughly £20 for a half decent chain. Gotta love how these things mount up aye Smile

Went to jump on my bike just before work, it's more screwed then I first though. I didn't notice the Speedo Cable coming out slightly, then totaly falling out of the Speedo casing when going off the curb. And you know that little piece of metal that holds the clutch cable to the clutch lever, thats snapped right off.(Don't know the name of that part sorry) Someone has been giving the bike a solid few kicks. As theres no way concrete would have done that damage, not the way a bike usualy falls. Or in this case, deliberately pulled over

A mate of mine had a similar problem, to solve it we all kipped in a transit van for a couple of nights that was parked a few yards from the bike in question. After the second night we heard the bike being kicked over and xsx of us all piled out if it tooled up.

They were dragged into the van, driven 100 miles into the middle of nowhere and beaten senseless.

Harsh but fair.
