I'm in the process of doing my direct access its booked over the next few weeks but i'm struggling as to what bike i can get when i pass. I'm 6'5 with some sizeable pins but i prefer the sports type bikes. I was looking at sv650s but i think i may be too big does any body have any experience at being my size or any recomendation? any help greatfully recieved!

Yeah I read that somewhere I was just presuming that would be a hard place to start for a novice?

Probably. You need to be a riding god to handle that kind of power. Laughing

All bikes are too small at this kind of height, unless you go for a motocross type thing. I fit a 600 ok, but I look like an even bigger gonk on those than I do on my Blade.

My mate is 6'2 and used to ride a SV650s when he had just passed his test. Also go round a few bike shops and sit on various bikes and see what feels best for you. Due to different seating postitions, the stretch to bars, bar height and footpeg height the only way you can really tell what suits you is by sitting on the bike or even better getting a test ride.

well im 6'5" and im on a gsxr400 and i dont find it that bad at all, dont get any cramp or anythin, its just a bit strange getting used to the riding position from a 125 cruiser style bike. all i can say is just test a few out and have whatever takes your fancy

Probably better to go older, there seems to be an obsession with making sportsbikes smaller and smaller at the moment (though still with really high seats).

Find some dealers with a decent second hand range and try getting a seat on some of them, even if it's just to decide which ones aren't worth bothering trying to negotiate a test ride on. Also pay attention to which bits you could modify, for example most tall people who've ridden my CBR will bitch endlessly about the crash mushrooms getting in the way of their knees. But of course, they could take them off if it was their own bike. So look for adjustable rearsets and such if you just need to change things a wee bit to get your legs in.

6"3 and riding a dinky yamaha sr 125 until I pass my test Laughing

I'm looking to get an SV also. but get down to your local dealer and have a sit. as well as size, you might want to think about riding position, so get a good feel for the bikes you sit on and find one you're comfy on Thumbs Up

im 18 im 6'3" (long legs) ride a sv1000s with no problems. so you should be fine on a sv650s thier about the same size (i believe).

you may find you like to stop after 100 ish miles and stretch your legs abit, but by that time youll need petrol any way lol.

I'm also 6'5" and owned an SV650S (Curvy one) last year. Found it lovely to ride. Good riding position and it never felt uncomfortable. Thumbs Up
