Relating to the thread, about how to get noticed on the road while riding, what are the penaltys for riding with strobe lights? say I was to get them in purple or amber or green?

something like this:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMBER-new-grill-led-strobe-light-set-ONLY-FOR-SHOW_W0QQitemZ250121764762QQihZ015QQcategoryZ28646QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Strobes = Illegal.

Ride to the conditions. Generate an excllent sense of hazard awareness. Sit upright approaching hazards. Be ready to stop - always. Calculate risk.

who cares what the fine or points are - it's a fucking ridiculous and chavtastic thing to even consider.

If your serious - step away from the bike and buy a chavved up corsa. Much safer if we account for the time it'll spend off the road having it's bling modifications.

They'd look great on a battered Mk3 Escort or Wideboy Astra with a massive wail tail.

Do you wear trakkies down the pub?

Actually.. it's a bit of a grey area..

the laws surrounding Vehicle Construction and Use state that a vehicle that would benefit from increased visibility can be permited to display flashing amber lights, but that the lights must be visible around 360 degrees of he vehicle.

You might want to clarify this, but you could, technically, argue thaat when you're filtering on a motorcycle, you would 'benefit from increased visibility'.

I'd not chance it tho.. not without doing a LOT of reading.

Any sane motorist would consider a flashing amber to be a turn signal....
Far more likely to get you knocked off than NOT.... Crying or Very sad

The fact it says "ONLY FOR SHOW" in the title should be a large hint that they are not legal.... Also a total lack of anything that says they are legal is a big hint....

Even on a slow vehicle? Thinking
I never assume vehicles with flashing amber lights on the top are informing me of their intention to take off.

But he'd still be stupid to stick one on his head.

Rite lad's its official , this site will be full of idiots like this guy over the coming summer months , they come with there tracky bottoms , Reebok classic and they just wana pimp thr scoot lyk knw wht i meen.....

Rolling Eyes

I hate people like this , theses are the people who give bikers a bad name , mate you are best off sticking your strobe lights as far up your arse as possible ,I will admit some lights/strobes look cool on show bikes but for road use there is no need for them , I think the title says it all "not for road use"
Go out, forget trying look like a Christmas tree on wheels and spend the money you were going to spend on the strobes on getting your self some better kit or something , the money will be much better spent that way.

Go figure Zed6 .......

Vaild point, which i forgot about.... But they are usually on large truck, van or tractors.....

Put one on the front/back of a bike and what will it look like ?
As you say if its on his head then fine.... But do you really want to be THAT visable Embarassed

Might as well get them in BLUE, then again even police bikes get missed from time to time by careless drivers.....

there shouldn't be anything wrong with a home-made bellypan, as long as there's nothing protruding that can catch or cut.

the Lighting regulations are here:
https://www.opsi.gov.uk/SI/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_1.htm

and section 11, para 2, (L) shows the vehicles that are allowed to display flashing amber. Motorcycles are not one of them.

you COULD try and get away with it under part (iv) as long as you don't exceed 25mph when using them, but I think you'd be pushing your luck.

it's worth looking around that site for other docs regarding bodywork and the like.
