Here on the East Coast of Australia right now we're getting smashed with some massive storms and some relentless rain.

On the way home from town (work) to my place is normally a ten minute drive at worst. It took me near an hour and a half to get home this evening.

It was like trying to navigate a maze.
Roads floaded at near every turn.
I would turn up a street thinking this would be the one to get me home only to be confronted with car stalled in water up to near their windows. Poor bastards.

Anyway I made it home and luckily have power.
Lots of lighting and thunder and a large portion of the area is without power.

Emergency vehicle sirens is just about all you can hear over thie thunder etc.

Some amazing weather is happening. It is truely impressive if not a little scarey.
The wind started last night and has kept going through the day.
The roads are littered with fallen trees and rubbish all over the place.

We are also a town that has port/ around a the harbour and as such, many large vessels are moared outside of the mouth of the harbour awaiting loading and unloading.

Its not uncommon to see upto 30 or so off the coast surrounding our beaches.

However and this is the weirdest part.
With the monster swells, non stop rain and wind and evil swells 4 ships has been grounded on our local beaches.

The pic is of one on Newcastles main beach Nobbys.

Others have ran aground not far from here.
It seems there anchors simply dragged with the current or simply broke and with no hope of powering out this is where they ended up.

They got the sailors off with a chopper but had live saver jet skis around the area in case they dropped off the chooper rope into the water.
Glad it wasnt me is all I can say.

Check out the pics.

Its not an oil tanker.

Its a coal ship and at this point is unladen.

They are concerned about all 4 ships and the fuel they have on board.
As such they are keeping a close eye on them.

I dont think they can get close enough to do anything at this point.
So just wait and hope i guess.

Would be weird having such a disaster as a spill so close to home.
