I would have thought it was an insurance write off probably, but that doesn't mean it's a write off, if you know what I mean.

My Bandit was a Cat C write off when I bought, £100 saw it back in excellent condition.

Is the crack on the engine casing or the frame? I had a whole set of cracked casing on the bandit, got new ones off of ebay, if your happy to go for scuffed ones you can get them real cheap, spray it with filler and then any colour you want!

I think the most important thing is to make sure the frame is still straight. Sub frames and forks you can get from breakers.
If the frame is straight I see no reason why you'd have to write it off. I haven't done it on a hornet, but I've put a couple of bikes back on the road after they were cat c/ds. MSN me if you want.

It will mean it has no re-sale value really but if you love the bike then you won't care, the main reason why I'll probably never get rid of it till it eats itself.

Are you claiming against another person?

Cos if not, and you're obviously not claiming for it off your own insurance (as you're TPFT), then it's not a write off as no insurance company are involved to do the writing off!

I doubt the frame will be bent from looking at the damage. Most frames aren't straight from new anyway. You can get it checked out easily but I wouldn't bother personally.

The damage to the engine casing is caused by the engine-bars. The bars are junk now and need to be scrapped as they are bent and won't line-up with the mount-bole. The grey mount plate is also likely to be bent by the looks of things too. When the bike went down the bars got bent and pushed the bolt upwards and forwards, levering the bolt which has broken the lug on the casing. You must remove the bars, unbolt the plate (if the bolt is not so badly bent it won't turn) then have someone clamp-up the cracked lug and weld it. It will probably need a roll-tap running through it to clean the thread after welding.

I wonder if that bolt is the original of a replacement that came with the engine-bars? Looking at the pictures it sems like it's smaller than the hole in the grey engine-mount plate. Perhaps the original had a shoulder on it to be a good fit in the hole. Certainly the washers look like the hole in them is too big for the bolt.

Like Geri said but take off the crash bars as the right one is bent.
The broken bit at the engine is not treaded so no need to tap it.
