Sad I came off my TLR at around 45 Mph ( speedo said 50 when I last seen it before coming off so was between 40-50Mph, the reason I came off , I forgot to tighten the wheel spindle up Rolling Eyes, it was only hand tight, the wheel did not come off tho just moved in the slots and threw me off , I was on grass so no real damage other than bent leavers.

I'm ok , a few cut's but I'm quite badly bruised , let this be a lesson for you out there, make sure things are tightened up properly before riding your bike after doing work on it , I had just put my big sprocket on so I could use it for a good few fast miles over the moors/common land.

Crying or Very sad Don't be as stupid as I have just been, it fucking hurts.

Now you've come off ON GRASS at LOW SPEED and suffered cuts and bruises. Do you still think there's a need to spend money on good bike gear for the road?

Surely it's a lesson that you need to learn from? I very much doubt it's affected anyone here. Confused

And why would anyone go out on a bike without the wheel spindle only being done hand tight? Even I didn't do that when I got my first 125 and I knew fuck all about anything. I just made sure things, like the mirrors and the wheel spindle, were tight before I got on the bike.

Gear is good. You don't have to spend stupid amounts of money. I spent 400 quid on boots gloves, jacket and helmet. 400 quid is cheap to save my skin.

How much do you value your skin?

Most people at some time who do their own work on a bike forget to do something, mine was not putting the oil cap back on, not putting the split link on a chain in the right way, putting the bar ends in too far and spoiling the throttle, Them pesky mirrors not being tight, leaving the light fuse out and riding in the dark. All done over the last 24 years but luckily never brought me off.
As for the clothing, leathers/ jeans depends on the distance and the mood.

I once forgot to shower for three weeks and became Tom Cruise.
I never recovered.

Let this be a lesson for you out there.

It would seem I have learnt a very good lesson , I have had an off and luckily I was OFF road ,I am relatively OK, but if it had of been on road I'm sure I wouldn't have got off so lightly.
Lesson learnt, I won't be doing that again thats for sure.

Oh my god , I can't believe how much it's hurting today, it's wired though because it didn't hurt this much last night , and now for some strange reason I have got toothache, don't know if its connected with coming off my bike though.
Confused

Christ that hurt, I really don't want to do that any time soon.

Probably the adrenaline, you be supprised what you dont notice when your bodys in the "nyaaaarg!" mode.. it'll pass, you'll be more careful next time I'm sure Wink

You need to get used to doing an after check when your doing this sort of work, after finishing whatever i go arround every bolt ive moved and torque it up propperly, even if ive allready done it, when you think of the possible consequences its worth the extra minute.

(is there not a torque arm on them things? or pinch bolt? or split pin?, i'm sure theres more than just the wheel spindle bolt?)

After close inspection it seems my lid has a HUGE crack right down the lining foam stuff, luckily it was only my older lid and not my new one.

Also I have had to have the tooth taken out as I cracked it when I hit the deck. Sad

I bought new leavers for the bike, £20.

Just got to fit them and then I think the bike is sorted.

Cheers, Jamie.
