Hi all, Im 16, have aprilia rs50 2006 - 17 in april - ages yes lol.

Still, what I want to know is, when I've passed my A2 which I will asap 17 lol, I was thinking going 400cc (rvf400 or kwak zxr400) but lately, Ive been more keen going to a big bike like a 600cc srad/gixxer 1999-~2003, (depending on cost),what are your experienced views on this?

Alot of people at 17 think going 125 is the norm, and the best option because 600 is asking for a coffin.
On the other hand I'd like a bike which is fast, and not having to upgrade/want to upgrade one year down the line, so what do you guys think, am I ludicrous? cheers.

I went from a 50cc Scoot. To a 125 Trail bike. And then to a `restricted` CBR400.

I wanted to get a SRAD600/750 but couldn't insure one under £1300. So the CBR400 was my only option really. Insurance at £400.

Its alright saying bigger / better etc. But Ive been riding 4 weeks now on the 400. I can get both knees down and the bike handles a dream.

Can also keep up with your average 600 sports bike to about 100mph.

I think it depends on how much respect you will give a particular bike, if you can admit you are a bit rash on the throttle I reckon you should opt for a smaller capacity bike, if you know you will be able to control your right hand well, then do whatever you see fit.

I went from 50cc scoot, to 33BHP restricted Bandit 600.

Depends on the person really, no reason you couldn't go and buy yourself a litre bike, but you'd need to know you could resist pinning the throttle everywhere (for obvious reasons)

Theres allot of fun in smaller bikes and being anble to get everything you can out of them and still not be getting into inevitable hedge finding situations, stinkwheel from here has said before his gpz500 he was only really just getting to use 100% of it after a couple of years, even though he is a seasoned biker.

Got to think of the practicality too, is it going to be your only transport? will it be easy to maintain/can you afford to maintain it? is it going to rot into oblivion when winter comes back arround? how much are your tyres going to be, considering they may last only 3000miles? can you carry stuff you need/shoping? will it be long/short trips?

Anyhow, get to some dealerships and sit on a few, that'll help make up your mind Wink

Great advice mate, cheers never thouht of sitting on one lol. Butt yeah maintanence is an issue my 50 is enough lol it will be my only transport so hopefully I ownt be shopping with bags hanging off the handle bars!
I think id need torestrict the 600 for a short period maybe to learn how to cope with even that power which is alot, thanks.

I went Gilera 125 - Aprillia RS125 - Yamaha YZF 600 - Honda Cg 125.. Hmmmm... Im i doing something wrong?!?!? lol

It realy depends on what type of rider you are. Are you a sensible rider or do you take risks..

if you are a sensible rider then i would advise to go for a restricted 600. This would ease you into the bigger bike feel and when the time comes for you to de-restrict the bike you will be able to handle the power much easier as you would be used to the bikes handling.

Cheers,

John

4t 125 to a full power 600.

no problems, 600's are so much more stable and safer to ride imho (if your not a complete nobber that is)

Go for the 600 if you want. I went straight from a 125 to a full power 600, restrictions aren't necessary assuming you remain aware of one very simple fact.... the throttle has over 100bhp on tap so be careful with it cos it will bite if you ride it in any way like a 50cc. Smile

I'd say go and have a look around and see what you like to suit your budget. I would say that you'd probably get more out of a 400cc sports though. There will be a time where you'll give it some, no matter how sensible you are you will. If you restrict a 600 and are normal Wink you will sit there constantly thinking about taking the restrictors out. At the end of the day you need to know yourself and be honest.

The problem with going from a 50/125cc bike to anything larger is that throttle is no longer an on/off switch.

Accept that you won't be pinning the throttle everywhere and you'll be fine.

i'd go with a 400/500 bike. I just asked the same thing on here yesterday. Although i decided with the 600, only because i'm getting it for free though.

I find i can control my right hand, i rarely even go 30 on my 50cc unless im on a straight. Good luck in deciding, it's a bitch though Laughing

Power is more important than displacement.

I went from full power Aprilia RS50 to full power Aprilia RS125 and I thought that was a massive jump so I wouldn't particularly recommend going too far, I'm going for either the Aprilia RS250 or a Honda VFR 400 next... Very Happy

It's all relative anyhow.

I went 50, 3 x 125, 250 (Honda Dream), YB100, VF400, FZR400, FZR1000, GSXR400, NSR250, go figure. Wink

i think ill be going to a suzuki drz 400sm in the next couple of months i cant frigging wait just need to find another 1500 from somewhere Rolling Eyes

what with the big rush to get a powerful bike your only 16 you have years and years to move up the cc range, im not being funny but you will probably just end up stacking it. i would recommend you to get something with a little less power maybe a 400 sport as they will be easier to control coming from the rs. and a 400 will still burn off any of your mates cars so its a win win.

If you think you can handle a 600 sports by all means try, you will be fine if you take it easy. But lets be serous what are the odd in that happening

if you are getting it restricted and ignore my post above Smile Thumbs Up
